Joy Behar is recovering from a dislocated shoulder after a backstage mishap knocked her out of Thursday’s episode of “The View,” leaving the ABC talk show without either of its regular moderators.
Sunny Hostin took the center seat with Behar sidelined and Whoopi Goldberg away filming a movie. She broke the news of Behar’s injury at the start of the broadcast.
“So, Whoopi [Goldberg] is still out filming a movie,” Hostin said, adding, “And, unfortunately, our dear friend Joy dislocated her shoulder.”
The announcement drew gasps from the audience.
“Yeah, so she’s recovering and will be back soon,” Hostin continued.
Behar’s representative told Page Six the 83-year-old comedian is expected to return around the middle of next week.
“Joy caught a heel backstage but is on the mend and should be back on the show mid next week,” the rep said in a statement.
“Her shoulder wasn’t broken and is back in place and she is excited to be back at the table as quickly as possible,” the rep added.
With Goldberg and her usual substitute both unavailable, Hostin, 57, joked that she landed the moderator’s job because she was “the next oldest” host.
“Or, let’s say, seasoned. I like seasoned better!” she joked.
POLL: Should ABC Pull The Plug On “The View”?
Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin joined Hostin at the table alongside guest host Sherri Shepherd.
“This is a squad right here,” Farah Griffin said. “I like this.”
Behar has been a fixture on “The View” since its 1997 launch, apart from a two-season break. Her latest absence follows a two-week stretch away in June, when she traveled to London for her play, “My First Ex-Husband.”
The comedy, which explores marriage and divorce, debuted off-Broadway in February 2025. Behar gave its British reception a glowing review when she returned to the daytime show June 16.
“Turns out women all over the world hate their husbands,” she joked.
“Everybody loved it,” Behar said. “It was a great experience.”
Before that trip, Behar pushed back on coverage characterizing her planned absence as a hiatus.
“There’s been a lot of media attention on me lately because I’m taking off the next two weeks,” she told viewers.
“They’re calling it a hiatus. It’s not a hiatus,” she added, explaining that she was leaving to “work.”
During the May 26 episode of the “Behind the Table” podcast, Behar outlined plans to stop in Paris before heading to London. Her itinerary included writing plays “in various cafes” and visiting exhibits.
