Former CNN anchor Don Lemon offered a surprising assessment of President Donald Trump’s record, acknowledging that the commander in chief has followed through on much of the policy agenda he promised voters.
Lemon made the remark Wednesday during an appearance on fellow former CNN personality W. Kamau Bell’s “Who’s With Me?” podcast as the pair discussed Trump’s comments about potentially seeking another term in the White House.
“I think you always take the person who is the president of the United States seriously and pretty much every promise that he has made – pretty much, like, policy-wise – he has delivered,” Lemon said on the “Who’s With Me?” podcast.
Lemon specifically pointed to several of the major issues Trump campaigned on.
“Like he said, ‘Look what I’m gonna do with immigration, I’m gonna do this with taxes, I’m gonna do this with healthcare,’ and he did all of them,” Lemon continued, adding that the only thing Trump hasn’t been able to deliver on is “pretty much the economy.”
The admission stood out coming from Lemon, a longtime Trump critic who has repeatedly blasted the president since leaving CNN.
The conversation began as Bell asked Lemon how seriously Americans should take Trump’s repeated talk about another presidential run after his current term.
Trump has publicly entertained the idea, including appearing in a red “Trump 2028” hat and saying he would “love to run” and that “everybody wants me to do it,” while also acknowledging that “the law’s very strong on that.”
The 22nd Amendment says no person can be elected president more than twice, creating a constitutional barrier to another Donald Trump election victory after his 2016 and 2024 wins.
Lemon said he nevertheless takes Trump’s comments seriously.
“Yeah, I take it seriously,” Lemon told fellow CNN alum W. Kamau Bell on the podcast. “Look, he’s got a Supreme Court that is basically under his thumb. He’s definitely gonna try, and no one has been able to stop him. He even defies federal judges right now so, we’ll see.”

Don Lemon‘s description of the Supreme Court reflected his own criticism of the president and the court, not an established characterization of the justices.
The discussion then shifted to areas where Bell and Lemon argued Trump had fallen short of his promises, particularly on the economy and cost of living.
“The ones that people would love him to deliver on is lower gas prices, no more foreign wars,” Bell said.
Lemon cut in: “‘I’m gonna lower the price of goods, I’m going to give you a DOGE check, I’m going to give you a tariff rebate or refund check.’ None of those things have come to fruition and those are the things that people want.”
He then jokingly asked Bell: “Did you get your tariff check or your DOGE check?”
Lemon’s broader claim that Trump has delivered on “pretty much every promise” was his own assessment. Trump’s administration has enacted major changes involving immigration enforcement, taxes and health policy, while the White House has repeatedly promoted those moves as promises kept.
Lemon has traveled a long way from CNN, where he spent 17 years before the network fired him in April 2023.
He has since reinvented himself as an independent journalist and hosts “The Don Lemon Show” across YouTube and other platforms.
Lemon has remained an outspoken Trump critic even while acknowledging Wednesday that the president has successfully carried out much of the policy agenda he took to voters.
