“Make Me Look Fancy”: Woman Filmed Herself Vandalizing WWII Memorial, Then SOBBED on FB Live as She Surrendered

The woman who is now facing federal charges in connection with the vandalism of a WWII Monument in Washington DC this week allegedly filmed the entire thing.

And strangely, she claimed over and over in a subsequent video that she was “trying to do the right thing”.

I’m going to warn you up front — this is an odd one, folks. Buckle up!

The red and green graffiti was clearly visible on the war memorial as she filmed her alleged crime, and then sent it out across social media — asking others to share it and even EDIT it for her.

To make her look “fancy”, of course. (Wonder if she has ever considered the fanciness of a prison jumpsuit?)

And after a litany of wild musings, she then filmed herself sobbing as if the reality of what she has just done finally started to set in.

Though, she never does back off from the ‘rightness’ of what she confesses she has done.

And I’m not quite sure ‘reality’ is something she has a firm grip on, either.

But just wait — we have to talk about being abandoned by federal witness protection and secret government planes that have been tracking her, as well.

Oh, yes… it gets good. Actually, it gets bad.

And before it’s all over, she sobs almost uncontrollably on her way to turn herself in.

It’s a wild ride, with a definite sad mental health component if you ask me — even though an acquaintance of the woman reportedly told the press that she isn’t crazy. (We’ll get to that.)

Let’s begin with a little introduction to Melissa L. Farris with a quick overview of some of her videos courtesy of a Fox News reporter in DC, who shared this clip:

That was originally shared by Bob Barnard with Fox News affiliate WTTG out of DC:

But trust me when I say that the little you saw in that video montage was only the tip of the iceberg.

Melissa Farris went wild with accusations and cryptic rants during her two main videos.

But let’s get some of the basics about what allegedly went down, according to this report from Reuters:

The World War Two Memorial was vandalized with bubbly soap and graffiti on Thursday. The fountain bubbled over with suds and the words “Clean hands Dirty $” were painted on one surface, splattering the area with red and green paint.

In videos posted to her Facebook account, Farris records herself spray painting the memorial and asking why she has not been arrested. She describes herself on the social media platform as a “pirate captain” who is “panhandling for America.”

The criminal complaint filed on Friday quotes Farris as saying,

“Someone has to make choices that are different and I am accountable for my actions,” she said. “I am going to make these choices today and I will step foot into the courtroom and I will wait to be arrested …. Our government needs to be accountable for their choices too.”

In later videos posted after the incident, she appears disheveled and crying, saying she knows she upset people by her actions but was trying to get help for herself.

In recent Facebook posts, Farris said she was planning the August 13 action to draw attention to U.S. tax dollars not being spent on ordinary Americans and to what she alleged were corporate racketeering, embezzlement and slave labor practices, among other issues. She had also contacted state and federal elected officials about her concerns, according to a person who knows her.

“She’s not crazy, not at all,” said the person, who asked to remain anonymous due the legal process surrounding Farris’ arrest. “She’s been trying to get attention.”
(Emphasis added.)

I have no doubt that if ATTENTION is what Melissa L. Farris wanted for her efforts allegedly vandalizing a WWII Memorial in the US Capital this week…

Attention is what she’ll get. She can certainly check that objective off the list!

But I do have to question whether or not the unnamed individual quoted in that Fox News story understands what the word “crazy” actually means.

The videos that Farris made of herself beginning at the WWII Memorial and ending in sobs as she turns herself in to the Police definitely include what I would call a touch of unmitigated CRAZY.

I’m not even going to share the first video she uploaded of herself at the Capital — because she literally squats down and urinates.

Like some Old Testament prophet instructed by God to use a weird object lesson to make a point.

In that video, she somehow connected her act of “pissing on your city” with a need to protect whistleblowers, mumbled something about people not having water, and wrapped it all up with a smug grin.

And then came this video on the day of the big event.

The two original videos are understandably hard to track down at this point, but I did find one account on X that shared both — a smaller account also followed by none other than investigative journalist Lara Logan, I suspect because the account shared the copies of Farris’ original Facebook videos.

That X account, presumably hailing from Melissa Farris’ home state of Kentucky, shared the first video in it’s entirety. All 28:50 minutes of it.

Here’s that for your viewing pleasure, if you’re into weirdness and strange ramblings:

I’ll fill you in on a few of the highlights in case you don’t have time to watch the entire clip.

A few seconds in, you hear Farris tell an onlooker that she’s a whistleblower who has been silenced for the past year.

At multiple points she references that she is autistic.

She frequently gets lost in silly ramblings that seem to perfectly fit my conceptual definition of “crazy”, not at all to be confused with autism or anything else she claims to have.

At about the 8 minute mark, she cuts to the rattle of spray paint cans, and you can see in multiple images that the WWII Monument has already been defaced to a great degree.

She states more than once that she is just waiting to get arrested while walking around her handiwork, verbally taking “all accountability” for the damage.

At which point she reminds the viewers that she “is autistic, has ADHD, practices Hinduism, but loves Jesus.”

And then she adds asthma to the list of her problems as an afterthought. Though I’m assuming that’s not a complete list.

The video continues for 20 minutes after the initial images of her vandalizing the site, at which point she is walking away because her expected arrest — apparently the INTENDED PURPOSE of the entire incident — hasn’t happened.

But, wait… there’s more!

In her follow-up video she takes a much different tone.

Still focused on her stated mission of getting arrested in order to somehow give herself a whistleblower platform, and the ability to get the help she claims she hasn’t been able to receive otherwise…

She nevertheless falls into sobs, at least giving the appearance that she is at the end of her proverbial rope.

Here’s a little primer for that next video featuring some of her key statements, along with more of the basics central to the story as reported by Fox News:

The suspect accused of vandalizing the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., has been charged with two federal offenses for injuring/depredating U.S. property and the destruction of a veterans’ memorial, according to court documents.

The DOJ is accusing Kentucky woman Melissa L. Farris of an act of vandalism which occurred Thursday.

Fox News Digital scanned Farris’ social media pages, which were cited in the court documents, and found she posted to Facebook Friday morning in a video.

“It’s me. I am going to turn myself in … I’m outside district federal court,” she said in a Facebook live.

“I am just trying to do the right thing … I was trying to get people to listen… I tried to reach the media, I tried to fight back. I tried to ignore it,” she said in tears.

Farris claimed she lived in a paper-thin camper that she “boarded up with cardboard in the winter to feel a little bit warmer.”

Federal prosecutors allege that cleanup and restoration costs already exceeded $1,000. (Emphasis added.)

It wasn’t until I saw the next video that I started having mixed feelings.

Look — if she did it, like she claims, like the video presumably shows, like she presumably confessed to authorities that she did — that’s a serious crime, and there needs to be serious justice dished out.

Maybe I’m the only one, but just because this lady comes across as a bit of a raving lunatic who thinks the world owes her something, that doesn’t mean she’s not experiencing some legit issues.

“Crazy” is a legit issue, right?

Grief, depression, too much solitude, too much of feeling like no one else understands what you’re going through or even cares…

Those are heavy things. And even those with a little bit of crazy going on can experience those, right? (Maybe even more so?)

Consider that fair warning that the next video isn’t all protest bravado and rah-rah “screw the government” fanfare.

Part of me relishes the change. That “FA” part is over… and now we get to see the culprit experience the “FO” side of things.

But whatever is really going on in Melissa Farris’ life that caused her to allegedly do what she claims she did has obviously taken a real toll.

Without further ado, here’s the second video depicting her subsequent meltdown, and her relentless hunt for someone — ANYONE — to just arrest her, already!

This clip was also shared on X by the same KentuckyOffGrid I referenced earlier:

Everything else aside, that’s what a broken person looks like.

I don’t know which version of Melissa L Farris is more accurate — the one we see vandalizing a WWII Memorial, or the one crying out for help and sobbing about her life — but I suspect it may be more the latter than the revolutionary rebel from the first video.

Even in that state, feeling the weight of the situation she has now put herself in, she is still rambling on about witness protection and government aircraft that may or may not be spying on her or protecting her.

She is confused because she assumes it’s one of the two, but she doesn’t know which.

Paranoid much?

The top-level story is this: someone vandalized the World War II Monument in Washington DC, and is facing charges for it with tons of evidence to support the charges ready to lay out in court against her.

Now, I’m not some big proponent of “everyone should go to counseling” — so don’t misjudge what I’m about to say.

I tend to think the entire psychotherapy and even more standardized counseling usually hinges so much on worldly precepts that we’ve LIKELY often done more harm than good across the board pushing those things so hard! (Different story, different time.)

But all that to say…

The second story within the story here, while it may be more obviously centric to Melissa Farris in this case, may also be of national interest more than it appears on first glance.

By all that is good and right, let the weight of justice drop, if she is found guilty in a court of law, for this crime.

But I’m going to ask the question I’ve been dancing around — and no I don’t think everything always boils down to BLAMING mental health or society, etc.

But does this woman still do what she has allegedly filmed herself doing if there are those around her to reach out to her — dare I say… love her?

With actionable, tangible, nurturing and protecting and safeguarding LOVE?

We hear similar statements from time to time thrown around in the political arena because they make good soundbites, usually when a woke leftist is trying to portray someone like Trump as a coldhearted inhuman tyrant.

That’s not how I mean it, and that’s not how I’m asking that question.

Because the real answer to my question is — maybe.

Maybe she still does it. Maybe she was hellbent on her own destruction, maybe people did reach out to her, maybe there’s a family that loves and tried to care for her, maybe the meds weren’t enough, or she wouldn’t take them consistently — or the meds were part of the problem? — but it didn’t matter.

Maybe.

But I’ll bet there’s a ton of Melissa L. Farris’ walking around, that if a family or a church or a community were to reach out to her and give her a real sense of belonging with purpose and support…

And accountability? And an understanding of personal responsibility?

And and understanding of consequences taught in the right way with an atmosphere of genuine care and concern and RELATIONSHIP… not just some ‘program’?

Maybe that changes things. For Melissa. For the country.

Maybe she doesn’t hike her leg and symbolically piss on American sovereignty, simultaneously demeaning herself as well.

Maybe she doesn’t show up armed with anger and spray paint and bubbles and chemicals, indirectly hurting the very people who gave their lives for her freedom.

Maybe not.

But, maybe.
