Another CNN anchor is leaving the network.

On Monday, CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour announced she will be departing from the network.

Amanpour was with the network over 43 years and joins Rachel Soloman and Jim Acosta as the latest anchor to depart the network.

Mediaite reported more on departure and revealed what may have led to her leaving CNN:

Longtime international anchor Christiane Amanpour is leaving CNN, according to media reporter Brian Stelter.

Stelter posted Monday, “CNN legend Christiane @Amanpour, the network’s chief international anchor, is departing the network next June.”

Trump pal David Ellison took over CNN earlier this month after closing an $81 billion buyout of Warner Bros. Discovery, putting the network under the same ownership as CBS.

At a recent appearance in London, Amanpour discussed the “ideological realignment” at CBS News and expressed her “concern” over the future of her network.

In a statement released Monday, Amanpour said, “After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!”

She continued:

I will end my daily shows across CNN and PBS at the end of this year, while continuing to maintain a weekly show on CNN through May and working on a smooth transition through June.

I want to thank all the amazingly talented people I’ve worked with throughout this incredible journey. Especially my beloved show teams and field crews.

From my very first big exciting assignment covering the First Gulf War, to the horrors of the Bosnian War, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Iran and all the points in between, it’s the teams and the camaraderie that counted so much, as we together battled to seek the facts, the evidence and the humanity, so that CNN could always broadcast the truth about the world and to the world, without fear nor favor.

I will be continuing my successful podcast the Ex-Files with Global and look forward to interesting new projects down the line, and will always be rooting for CNN and maintaining its history of independent journalism. Remember: always be truthful, not neutral.

One of Amanpour’s most remember moments at CNN is when she refused to wear a headscarf when scheduled to interview Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

As a result of refusing to wear a headscarf, the Iranian President refused to sit down with Amanpour.

Take a look:

Just one of Christiane’s many powerful and memorable moments: refusing to give in to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s demand that she wear a headscarf for an interview in NYC. She showed up; he didn’t.

Grateful to call @amanpour a colleague and friend. https://t.co/BLtHZKV6ta pic.twitter.com/uGiCgO2e5j

Some have speculated Amanpour left the network after Skydance bought CNN.

AP News reported more on the monumental deal and what it means for the future of CNN:

CNN has a new owner: Skydance.

After a tumultuous, roughly yearlong process, Skydance-owned Paramount closed its $81 billion buyout of Warner Bros. Discovery on Tuesday. And beyond Hollywood, the mega merger brings two titans of the American TV news landscape — CBS and CNN — under the same roof.

On the eve of the deal’s completion, Skydance confirmed that CNN’s Mark Thompson will stay on as editor-in-chief of the network — separate from CBS, where Bari Weiss remains at the helm. But how the combined company’s news operations will look farther down the road is yet to be seen.

Politics are also top of mind. The billionaire family of Skydance CEO David Ellison has a cozy relationship with President Donald Trump — who has been far from shy about targeting coverage he deems unfavorable from both CNN and CBS. Last month, his administration moved to bar CNN from the White House. And the network’s new ownership arrives as coverage ramps up less than a month ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Ellison has pledged to maintain “complete” editorial independence. Under a recent settlement with states that challenged the merger, the company also agreed to establish new monitoring of CBS and CNN by forming a “News Editorial Independence Board” within 180 days.

Still, Skydance’s corporate leaders will choose who sits on this board. And critics warn of the consequences of industry consolidation overall.
