Congressional leaders on Wednesday reflected on the horrors of the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023, massacre that resulted in the tragic loss of over 1,000 Israeli civilians, including 47 American citizens.
The massacre, known amongst Hamas and Palestinians as the “Al-Aqsa Flood,” consisted of militant attacks against civilians, including women and children. During the attack, more than 200 Israelis were taken to Gaza as hostages and were abused, raped, and tortured before being exchanged for Islamist terrorist prisoners in Israel.
“Today, we remember the lives taken, pray for the families who still carry the weight of that unimaginable loss, and reaffirm America’s unwavering support for our Jewish communities and our great ally, Israel,” Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., wrote on X.
Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., a Jewish member of Congress, remembered the atrocity and added that he hopes every last one of the jihadist terrorists “burn in hell.”
“We remember the murdered. We remember the hostages,” Fine wrote on X.
Fine also thanked President Donald Trump for working to release the hostages, dead or alive, back to Israel. The last Israeli hostage was returned to Israel on Jan. 26, 2026. The 2026 anniversary of the attacks marks the first anniversary on which no Israeli hostages remain in Hamas captivity.
“We are grateful to President Trump for bringing them all home when nobody thought it was possible. We hope the monsters who committed these atrocities burn in hell. Never forget October 7th—never again.”
Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., echoed Fine’s claims and posted on X that he “stands” with the families of over 1,200 victims and survivors.
‘We remember the lives lost, honor the victims and survivors, and stand with their families,” Gottheimer said. “We will never forget October 7. We will keep fighting antisemitism and hate in all its forms, here at home and around the world.”
Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., added that the third anniversary of the massacre only reaffirms his commitment to Israel, our ally.
“Israel has my full support for what’s necessary to prevail and erase the last 2,000 Hamas cowards,” Fetterman wrote. “The world cannot ever forget the horror of that day.”
Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., a Jewish Democrat, added in an X post that she is thinking about the families “who endured years of uncertainty, and the communities that are still carrying the scars of that attack.”
Slotkin recently endorsed Michigan’s Democrat Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who has not referred to Hamas as a terrorist organization and has expressed doubts about the existence of Israel as a Jewish state.
