President Trump called the European Union’s potential invitation to Canada to join as an associate member “laughable,” adding that America’s northern neighbor is a “terrible trade partner.”
Trump also said it may be considered a “hostile act.”
“If they do that, if I think it’s at all a hostile act, I will put very serious tariffs or stop trading with Europe,” Trump told reporters.
“If it’s a good intention, that’s fine. If it’s a bad intention, we’ll put very heavy tariffs on Europe,” he added.

The Hill shared further:
“Canada welcomes this ambition. I will tell you polling shows that an overwhelming majority of Canadians support much closer ties with Europe,” Carney said.
“An alliance for the future is a unique, positive approach that we will define together,” he added.
