NEW: Law enforcement sources confirm that the husband of Crystal City, Texas Mayor, Jose Cerda was arrested by ICE last night– Sources say he overstayed his visa and was in the country illegally.
Zavala county sheriff’s office made the arrest in collaboration with @ICEgov:
“JOINT IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT OPERATION WITH ICE RESULTS IN DETENTION
CRYSTAL CITY, TEXAS — On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office (ZCSO), in coordination with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), conducted an immigration enforcement action following complaints regarding an individual reportedly residing unlawfully in Crystal City, Texas.
At approximately 7:46 PM, a Zavala County Sheriff’s Office deputy made contact with two individuals occupying a vehicle in Crystal City, Texas.
During the encounter, deputies identified one of the individuals as Armando Garza Lira.
ICE subsequently advised that Mr. Lira was unlawfully present in the United States in violation of State and Federal law.
Mr. Lira was taken into custody and transported to the Zavala County Jail, where he was transferred to jail personnel pending further immigration enforcement action by federal authorities.
The other individual identified as Jose Angel Cerda was released without further incident.”
