Outgoing White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles broke her silence Friday morning after President Donald Trump announced that she would be stepping down from her position, issuing an emotional farewell message while reaffirming her loyalty to the president.
Wiles, who has served as Trump’s chief of staff since the beginning of his second term, addressed the unexpected leadership change in a statement posted to X shortly after the president announced that longtime adviser Stephen Miller would be taking over her position.
The veteran Republican strategist expressed gratitude for her time in the White House, pointing to the administration’s accomplishments while making clear that her departure from the role would not mark the end of her involvement in Trump’s political movement.
“Today is my last day as White House Chief of Staff,” Wiles wrote Friday. “Serving President Trump in the White House has been the honor of a lifetime. I’m so proud to have been a part of what we’ve accomplished together from securing our border and cutting taxes to strengthening our economy and putting America First.”
Wiles also paid tribute to the White House staff members she worked alongside, describing her colleagues as one of the most meaningful parts of her tenure.
“More than anything, I’m grateful for the extraordinary people I’ve had the privilege of working alongside,” she continued. “While my role may be changing, my commitment to the President and the mission never will.”
The statement came just minutes after Trump announced a sweeping change to his senior leadership team, confirming that Miller, currently serving as deputy chief of staff, would officially assume the top White House position on Monday, November 9.
“I am pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen Miller, the current Deputy Chief of Staff of the Trump Administration, and one of my most trusted advisors, will become the Chief of Staff starting Monday, November 9, 2026,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Susie Wiles, who has done an outstanding job, will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation. I want to thank her for her service as Chief of Staff — She has done a great job!”
The announcement marks a significant transition for Wiles, who played an instrumental role in Trump’s successful 2024 presidential campaign before becoming the first woman in American history to serve as White House chief of staff.
Widely regarded as one of Trump’s most trusted political advisers, Wiles helped guide his return to the White House after his 2020 election defeat and remained a central figure in the administration throughout the first two years of his second term.
Her departure from the chief of staff position comes just three days after the 2026 midterm elections, which delivered major gains for Democrats and complicated the Republican Party’s political outlook heading into the final two years of Trump’s presidency.
Miller, meanwhile, has emerged as one of the administration’s most influential figures, particularly on immigration enforcement and domestic policy. His promotion places him in charge of overseeing White House operations and coordinating the president’s policy agenda.
Although Trump did not explain the circumstances behind the leadership change, his announcement indicated that Wiles would remain involved in his political operation rather than leave his orbit entirely.
Wiles’ farewell statement appeared to reinforce that arrangement, offering no public criticism of the president or his decision to replace her.
Instead, she closed her tenure with a message of continued loyalty, signaling that her work on behalf of Trump would continue even as her responsibilities change.
The White House has not yet provided additional details about Wiles’ new position or the specific responsibilities she will assume.
