Inside Scoop: Can Talarico take Texas? France in flames, Trump’s reality TV

Jim Antle, the magazine’s executive editor, brings to life the pages of the Washington Examiner’s magazine in the show Inside Scoop. Each episode features exclusive insight from the article authors and expert analysis.

Antle starts the show by breaking down why the Texas Senate race is so close despite James Talarico’s extremism.

“The race is so close because Ken Paxton, the Republican nominee, is a flawed candidate,” Antle said. “His primary win over the incumbent Senator John Cornyn divided the party.”

Antle says because of this, the Democratic nominee James Talarico has been leading in most of the polls even though he has “strange” views on race, sex, and religion. However, Antle warns Democrats have struggled in Texas before and Republicans tend to outperform the polls.

“Texas is a state that Democrats have wanted to turn blue for quite some time but they’ve always fallen short,” Antle said. “Even as some of these candidates have done well with fundraising, and Talarico is doing well in the polls, but it’s very close.”

Next in the show, Antle discusses the rioting and destruction in France with Washington Examiner columnist Dominic Green.

“What began with striking school students, the Left very quickly moved to capitalize on this,” Green said. “It sent its deputies to the school gates to encourage the rioters. Even so, this is a consciously political move. And then you have the wild card element of the Antifa type, and just general young men from the suburbs who are alienated, often of immigrant background.”

Green sees the unrest unfolding alongside the country’s political and economic troubles, something that he says makes this moment especially consequential.

“France is heading for a reckoning either way,” Green said. “French treasury bonds have gone through the roof and are at a historic high, and are running much higher than those on Germany or even the British pound. So France has basically run out of road economically. The credit crunch, debt crisis is coming, regardless of whether the streets quieten down.”

For the show’s in-depth report, Washington Examiner’s Peter Cordi gives his take on the violent outbreaks at a recent Trump rally.

“The president seemingly forgot he’s no longer a reality TV personality,” Cordi said. “At least, that’s how he treated the situation.”

Cordi compared Trump’s response to Joe Rogan reacting to a UFC knockout from outside the octagon, and felt Trump’s words were attuned with what was said by conservative influencers such as Nick Shirley. Instead, Cordi wished Trump had taken the moment to be presidential and condemn political violence.

INSIDE SCOOP: ATTORNEYS GENERAL VS. TRUMP, DEMOCRATS QUARREL OVER CUBA, CONSERVATIVE ‘FUSIONISM’

“Trump has a responsibility to preserve our great republic,” Cordi said. “It’s a very bad look for him to treat the situation like it’s a joke or something to be celebrated. Hecklers have the right to heckle, and the venue has the right to kick them out, but violence should never be tolerated.”
