Five police officers were injured after a police boat struck London’s Westminster Bridge on Friday afternoon.
A Metropolitan Police update said a boat belonging to the Metropolitan Marine Policing Unit collided with Westminster Bridge at around 3:45 p.m., causing some officers to fall into the River Thames.
All injured officers were recovered, and there are no reported fatalities from the incident.
”We understand five officers were injured and are receiving treatment. We await an update on the extent of their injuries,” the news release reads. “At this stage, we don’t believe any members of the public were involved or injured. The circumstances of the incident will be thoroughly reviewed, but at this stage our priority is the wellbeing of the officers involved.”

Large numbers of emergency responders arrived at the scene, including a police helicopter and air ambulance. Those injured were observed receiving treatment from paramedics on a black inflatable moored alongside the River Thames.
A police boat was seen being towed by a larger boat belonging to the fire service.
Crowds swarmed to observe the scene, while traffic was kept to a standstill.
Tourists Cecilia Lusevic and her 12-year-old son Mateo Bilis-Lusevic were close to the scene when the incident happened, according to Sky News.
“Two boats were riding extremely fast through the water,” Mateo said. “Suddenly, I heard a boom. I was looking towards the boat, and I heard a boom. Then three people went flying into the water and one of the people was really hurt.”

Mateo said officers were in the water for roughly 10 minutes before a life ring was thrown.
