Democrats smear police after a shooting in Madison, Wisconsin

The Black Lives Matter movement has been largely neutered by the widespread adoption of body cameras. Democrats in Wisconsin are trying to bring the movement back, though, smearing police officers for a shooting after having deprived those officers of body cameras.

A police shooting in Madison, Wisconsin, has brought out the Democratic smears of police officers. State politicians have flocked to condemn the police, including the leading Democratic candidate for governor, who called the shooting an “execution,” and the city’s mayor, who condescendingly said that the police need “to do better” and that she was feeling “anger, grief, and fear.”

HOW FEDERAL COURTS ARE QUIETLY DEFUNDING AMERICAN POLICE

Madison police notably do not have body cameras because the city’s Democratic leaders have not approved body cameras for financial reasons. Conveniently, this allows Democrats to smear these Madison police officers for shooting Corey Ruiz.

Except, there is bystander video of the fight between Ruiz and the police that led to him being shot. The video appears to show Ruiz actively fighting against four police officers who are trying to detain him. Officers can be heard loudly announcing that Ruiz has a knife. One officer deploys her taser, which fails (as tasers often do). Another officer then fires multiple shots, killing Ruiz. The video then appears to show officers removing a large knife from his hands.

Police say the suspect pulled a fixed-blade knife during a struggle, injuring an officer after a Taser failed to stop him. The officer then fired three rounds, killing the suspect.

BODY CAMERAS CAN FLIP THE ICE DEBATE JUST AS THEY DID WITH POLICE SENTIMENT

Corey Ruiz was killed because he was actively fighting against the police while armed with a knife. Every indication from the video appears to show that the police officers involved acted properly and that the shooting was justified. And yet, Democratic leaders in the city and state have hoped to capitalize on the lack of body cameras (which would almost certainly make it even clearer why Ruiz was shot) to smear these officers.

All of this is being done in the service of anti-police activists, whose enthusiasm Democrats hope to capitalize on to fuel a Democratic wave in Wisconsin during the 2026 midterm elections. Those Wisconsin Democrats have deprived Madison police of body cameras and hoped to take advantage of that, unaware that bystander video still appears to show the officers acting reasonably under the circumstances while trying to avoid being killed by an armed man who was actively fighting them. This is yet another case of Democrats broadcasting their hatred of the police and just how shameless their party is in pursuit of power.
