Washington Examiner columnist Guy Benson encouraged young people to socialize in person and leave the doom scrolling at home.
“I like this idea of just congregating with friends somewhere. Have someone’s mom drop you off, you got three hours to basically not get arrested, and enjoy a Friday night,” Benson said on Fox News’s Gutfeld! on Friday.
Benson reacted to an article by the New York Post that indicated malls are “making a shocking comeback.”
The article said Generation Z is “dragging their moms” to malls in light of the food, and that movie theaters and luxury brands are moving in. It also cited statistics from real estate research firm Green Street, which said mall values rose 13% in the past year.
“I think there’s maybe some nostalgia here, but there is overall a desire to actually break through this nonsense online and enjoy your life,” Benson said.

Benson said socializing in person is “definitely healthier than the algorithm slavery option sitting at home.”
“If you ask me for my kids, when they’re, let’s say, in their teens, would I rather them be at home on screens all night or at the mall, I’m like ‘I will drive you and pick you up.’ It’s not a close call,” Benson said.
