Hunter Biden Unloads On CNN’s Jake Tapper — Then Calls Out The Story He Says Was A Lie

Hunter Biden attends the 2021 presidential inauguration in Washington, D.C.

Hunter Biden has picked a new enemy inside the same Washington media world that spent years treating scrutiny of the Biden family as partisan noise.

During a sprawling interview with Don Lemon, Hunter did far more than criticize CNN anchor Jake Tapper. He unloaded on him, made the feud intensely personal and then challenged one of the stories at the heart of the Democrats’ post-2024 blame game.

In the full July 22 episode of The Don Lemon Show, Lemon asked Hunter whether he had been friends with Tapper and what he thought of the anchor’s book. Hunter said he had known Tapper for roughly 25 years, but whatever friendship once existed was clearly gone.

What followed was not a polished cable-news answer. Hunter used an obscene insult, called Tapper a “really poor journalist” and said he did not consider him a decent person.

Hunter said the grievance was personal and tied it to the way Tapper had spoken about him, his mother and his father. He insisted he would say the same things to Tapper’s face and said he no longer had any reason to perform the usual Washington ritual of pretending to respect someone he plainly despises.

The more consequential exchange came later, when Lemon raised claims that Hunter and Jill Biden had pushed former President Joe Biden to stay in the 2024 presidential race. Hunter said he had heard that narrative from Tapper and flatly denied reports that he moved into the White House, planted himself in the Oval Office or pressured his father to keep running.

The profanity will draw the clips. The accusation that matters is Hunter’s claim that a prominent journalist helped spread a false story about the Biden family’s role in the failed reelection campaign.

That claim needs to be handled carefully. Hunter is not a neutral witness, and he has an obvious personal interest in rejecting any account that assigns him blame for his father’s political collapse.

His own answer also contains an important tension.

Hunter denied pressuring his father to remain in the race. Yet he acknowledged that he never told him to leave it either.

Hunter’s word alone does not prove Tapper’s reporting was wrong. Still, it is a direct challenge from the person Tapper’s narrative reportedly placed near the center of the family pressure campaign.

Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson’s Original Sin was published on May 20, 2025. The official publisher description frames the book as an account of Joe Biden’s decline, the effort by people around him to conceal its severity and the disastrous decision to seek another term.

The book arrived after voters had already seen the June 2024 debate disaster, watched Democrats force Biden aside and returned President Trump to the White House. That timing fueled a fair question Tapper has never fully escaped: Why did so much of the media’s supposedly explosive truth arrive only after it could no longer help voters make the decision in front of them?

Hunter’s attack goes beyond that familiar criticism. He is accusing Tapper of turning a false family narrative into part of the historical record while presenting himself as one of the journalists finally revealing what happened behind closed doors.

The interview settles nothing by itself. It does put one of the story’s central figures on camera, under his own name, saying the account was the opposite of the truth and identifying Tapper as one of the people he heard advancing it.

The hostility clearly runs both ways.

A clip from 2025 resurfaced Thursday showing Tapper delivering his own blistering assessment of Hunter’s ethics, judgment and treatment of his family.

That footage is not a new Tapper response to Hunter’s interview. It is an older clip reshared Thursday, and it shows the bad blood was already present well before Hunter sat down with Lemon.

Tapper’s criticism focused on Hunter’s conduct. Hunter’s counterattack focused on Tapper’s character, his journalism and the lucrative postmortem that followed Joe Biden’s defeat.

Neither man deserves automatic credibility.

Hunter’s long record of disastrous choices makes him a deeply flawed messenger. Tapper’s late transformation into a chronicler of Biden’s decline has earned its own skepticism from Americans who watched major media figures dismiss or downplay obvious warning signs in real time.

That is what makes this exchange more revealing than the profanity.

A member of the Biden family is now accusing one of CNN’s biggest names of the very thing conservatives have alleged for years: shaping the story when it was useful, then cashing in on the reckoning after the damage was done.

Tapper wanted to write the definitive account of how the Biden presidency unraveled. Hunter just put Tapper inside that story and accused him of helping create one of its most damaging claims.

Their old relationship is over. The fight over who gets to write the history of the Biden collapse is just getting started.
