Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha blasted Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who is facing multiple fraud investigations over her finances, marriages, and citizenship status.
“Again with all these plot twists, I mean, there is definitely a Hulu or a Netflix series coming about this very soon,” Concha said Saturday on Fox News’s The Big Weekend Show.
The FBI raised Omar’s home in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 12 as part of the latest investigation into the congresswoman’s citizenship. The Somali-born congresswoman was granted automatic citizenship through the naturalization of her father. However, discrepancies in her birth year called into question whether it was done legally.
Omar would only receive automatic citizenship if she was a minor during her father’s naturalization in 2000. Her birth year was originally entered into public record as 1981, making her 18 at the time, before it was later changed to 1982. If the allegations are proven true, she could face denaturalization. Omar has said these investigations were politically motivated.
“What I’ve noticed in all of these interviews is that she attacks the motivations of the investigation based on the color of her skin, based on her religion, based on the fact that she’s a member of the squad, or she’s a Democrat who’s been critical of Donald Trump,” Concha said. “She never really hit back very hard on the things she’s being accused of.”
The representative is also facing other allegations. President Donald Trump said in January that he planned to investigate Omar on a large discrepancy in her tax filing, where her and her husband’s assets were listed up to $30 million in what Omar later called an “accounting error.”
Concha said those accusations should be a bigger deal.
“But the biggest story here that we’re not talking about is the fact that she was in debt when she ran for Congress, and then she had $30 million, and that $30 million has gone away,” Concha said. “I think that’s the biggest story here. How was that money made, why did it go away?”
Omar is also rumored to have married her biological brother from Somalia in order to grant him residency in the U.S. Vice President JD Vance said the DOJ was looking into whether that was true.
OMAR ADDRESSES RUMORS SHE’S RELATED TO HER EX-HUSBAND: ‘NOT TO MY KNOWLEDGE’
In a recent interview with MS Now, Omar was asked if she ever married her biological brother, to which she responded, “Not to my knowledge.” Concha said that was an unusual answer.
“If you asked me, ‘Are you related to your current wife?’ right now, I would say, ‘No,’” Concha said. “The same way I would say, ‘It’s not snowing outside,’ and ‘the Jets aren’t making the playoffs.’”
