HEARTBREAKING: Bodycam Footage of Heehaw the Donkey’s Final Moments Released

image399.jpg

Fresh outrage is erupting after the release of bodycam footage showing the moment a Georgia police officer shot a family’s beloved pet donkey.

As you may remember, Heehaw, a 1-year-old baby miniature donkey, was shot and killed on his family’s pasture in the middle of the night by cops who were searching for a missing girl.

The officer who killed Heehaw claimed he felt threatened because the donkey “charged” at him.

But, the newly-released bodycam footage challenges that story.

In it, you can see Heehaw running up to the police officers, happily greeting them as he did everyone who entered his pasture.

That’s before one of the cops tases him.

Heehaw then appears to turn away and walk off. Roughly ten seconds later, shots are fired in Heehaw’s direction.

The officer can then be heard calling in the shooting, claiming the donkey had “attacked” them.

The story gets even sadder when you realize that Heehaw had been raised as a docile, friendly, and trusting pet.

He had been trained to greet people, just like a dog. That’s what he spent the final moments of his life doing with the officers in that video.

Heehaw’s heartbroken owner Hannah Israel issued a statement in response to the bodycam footage.

Full statement:

I wasn’t going to watch it, but ultimately, I needed to see the truth for myself. I am absolutely sickened and heartbroken knowing that his final moments were filled with pain, fear, and suffering. What hurts the most is knowing he trusted the very person who caused him that pain. He thought someone was coming to show him kindness, give him pets, and love on him. Instead, those were his last moments. He was innocent, trusting, and so loved. He deserved so much better than this. I will never be able to understand how something so cruel could happen to such a sweet, defenseless soul.
💔

The family is suing the cop who took Heehaw’s life.

That officer’s name is Trenton Garner.

Local 3 News has more details on the lawsuit:

The owner of Heehaw claims officer Trenton Garner entered her property without permission or a warrant. Police say Heehaw charged at a K9 during their investigation.

The lawsuit claims Heehaw was small and calm and posed no threat to law enforcement while officers left the farm without notifying them their animal was dead.

Heehaw’s owner is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, along with court costs. Garner has been placed on leave pending an investigation.

The bodycam footage is making waves online, sparking a lot of fury.

There are a lot of cops who definitely should have chosen a different career path. It was a tiny donkey you fucking moron.

When you know that this mini donkey was not only friendly (it acted more like a dog) it makes this even more heart wrenching. Fired isn’t good enough.

@johnbryanesq If anyone understands animal behavior, that was not aggressive. It was a friendly trot to greet them. These guys are way too on edge. Mentally unstable for sure.

@johnbryanesq I live in the country and have spent plenty of time out here.

This needs to bring criminal charges.

@mattvanswol If you’re an officer, and you are afraid for your life at that little donkey, you need to find a different job.

@mattvanswol I support law enforcement most of the time. This is not one of those times. Did this moron cop really think the miniature donkey was going to kill him or cause great bodily harm? He didn’t even hesitate.

What an absolute coward!!!

I hope he gets shamed everywhere he goes

What are your thoughts?

Should the officer who shot Heehaw face harsher consequences? Was it justified?
