The super PAC affiliated with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is pulling funding from a vulnerable House Republican in Iowa within days of the pair campaigning together to rally support in the weeks before Election Day.
The House GOP’s Congressional Leadership Fund is diverting funding from the reelection campaign of Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) just four days after the speaker gave her a glowing endorsement, the Washington Examiner confirmed.
The CLF is expected to claw back $10 million from races in New Jersey, Iowa, Michigan, and Ohio, but Miller-Meeks’s funding cut is significant because of how quickly it came after Johnson’s appearance with her on the campaign trail.
Miller-Meeks, an ophthalmologist by training, won her first House race by a margin of just six votes in 2020. During her 2024 reelection campaign, she defeated former Iowa state Rep. Christina Bohannan by fewer than 800 votes. The pair face off for a third time on Nov. 3.
During an event at the Miller-Meeks headquarters in Davenport, Iowa, on Friday, Johnson praised Miller-Meeks as having “an essential skill set” of easing tensions between various factions within the GOP caucus.
Johnson said Miller-Meeks was a “deciding vote” last year to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which Republicans have attempted to rebrand as the Working Families Tax Cut.
“The reason Mariannette is so important to us is because she’s one of the voices that can get everybody together when things are really stressful,” Johnson said on Friday.

Bohannan is ahead in the most recent polling and has an 89% change of winning on Polymarket as of Tuesday.
Bohannan has received significant financial support from the Democrat fundraising group 314 Action, which backs candidates with science or medical backgrounds.
The group has spent $1.8 million on Bohannan, an engineer and law professor, to unseat Miller-Meeks, who they argue has not delivered sound healthcare policy for her constituents. In August, 314 Action spent $750,000 on a television, digital, and mail advertising attack campaign against Miller-Meeks’s healthcare policy record, blaming her for the cuts to Medicaid included in the OBBBA.
Erik Polyak, 314 Action executive director, told the Washington Examiner that Republicans are “waving the white flag” because they expect Bohannan to win.
“Democrats need to flip just three seats to take back the House, and the path to a Democratic majority runs through STEM Democratic candidates,” Polyak said.
A Miller-Meeks spokesperson told the Washington Examiner the campaign “has the resources to win and Mariannette Miller-Meeks has the record to run on.”

The spokesperson added that Bohannan is backed by “New York billionaires and national Democrats who know she’ll vote with them every time.”
“They spent millions against Mariannette in 2024, and it didn’t work then,” the spokesperson said. “It won’t work now, and on November 3 she’ll beat Christiana Bohannan a third time.”
