GO WOKE, GO BROKE: Netflix FIRES Chief Content Officer Amid Mass Wave of Layoffs

Streaming giant Netflix is suffering the consequences of catering to the woke left.

On Friday, it was announced that longtime Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bejaria has been fired.

She will be replaced by Peter Rice, the former entertainment chairman at Disney.

Take a look:

Bela Bejaria is being replaced after a decade in the role at Netflix.

Reportedly, Netflix’s film chief Dan Lin is also on the chopping block, subject to a final decision by the new CCO Peter Rice.

CNBC shared some statements from the company:

Rice most recently oversaw Disney’s cable channels, news programming and coverage of major sporting events.

“Peter is one of the most effective at-scale operators in the entertainment industry,” co-CEO Ted Sarandos said in a statement. “I’m excited to welcome him to Netflix as Chief Content Officer as we continue to scale and deliver members more of the stories they love.”

Before Rice was at Disney, he held roles at 21st Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Pictures. Netflix in its announcement called him “one of the entertainment industry’s most respected creative executives.” In his new role, Rice will oversee the company’s global content organization, including scripted and unscripted series, film and live events.

″[Netflix has] shown again and again that they’re willing to take chances on distinctive voices and fresh ideas, and I’m excited to work with the team to help bring even more great stories to members everywhere,” he said in a statement.

Bajaria, who is leaving Netflix after nearly 10 years, most recently led the company’s global content team. She had been focused on the company’s live sports strategy, looking to create events out of buzzy games and tournaments.

“I’m incredibly grateful for everything she’s done to help Netflix entertain the world,” Sarandos said in a statement.

Bejaria isn’t the only one leaving Netflix, however…

Her abrupt firing comes amid a massive wave of layoffs at the company.

Netflix recently fired over 1,000 employees — which equates to roughly 6% of its total workforce.

Benny Johnson broke down the details:

Netflix is FIRING 1,000 employees as the company continues to collapse.

Netflix is FIRING 1,000 employees as the company continues to collapse.

Their stock has PLUNGED nearly 40% in the past year. Some of its biggest shows reportedly have lost more than HALF their viewers after just one season. They sexualized children. They mocked Charlie Kirk’s death. They betrayed their audience and now they’re facing the consequences.

In other words, go woke go broke.

Netflix hasn’t been doing so well in recent years.

Within the past year, stocks have collapsed by 40% as audiences flock to other streaming platforms.

Simply put, people have stopped watching a lot of Netflix programs, and they are losing tons of money because of it.

The New York Post reported further:

Netflix is reportedly laying off 1,000 workers – the streaming giant’s biggest cuts since 2022.

Staff were told Wednesday that about 6% of the workforce – within product, tech, legal, and human resources teams – was being slashed, according to a memo obtained by the Post.

“Our mission—to entertain the world—is ambitious, and delivering on it requires us to be disciplined about where we prioritize our people and resources,” top execs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos were quoted as telling employees in an message that was first obtained by the Wall Street Journal.

The company still has the most subscribers out of any other streaming service, with 325 million worldwide, but shares have fallen 40% percent in the past year. Netflix stock went up about 1% after the layoff news broke.

The TV and film disruptor has been struggling to keep audiences engaged. Bloomberg reported over the summer that the Netflix’s biggest shows were losing more than half of their viewers after just one season. The company has been trying to build up its portfolio by adding video podcasts and live shows.

Still, Bejara’s firing comes as a shock to many.

Reportedly, it was very sudden, and she was only notified that she was getting the axe after carrying out a large amount of layoffs herself.

Page Six has more:

In a twist worthy of a Netflix drama, ousted chief content officer Bela Bajaria only learned of her firing at 5p.m. on Wednesday before a VIP screening of “Nobody Wants This” — after the streamer had repeatedly reassured her that her job was secure, sources tell Page Six Hollywood.

An announcement went out yesterday saying Bajaria was out after nearly 10 years, and that well-respected former Disney TV head Peter Rice was her replacement. But the news leaked earlier on Thursday in Puck.

“She got f–ked — she got blindsided,” says a source with knowledge of the tick tock surrounding Bajaria’s ouster and the layoffs. The source said that, “she knew there were rumors,” she’d be let go, but was told in recent weeks that her job was safe.

The exec only learned the news just before a VIP screening of Erin and Sara Foster‘s “Nobody Wants This,” which debuts on Oct. 22, sources said.

On Wednesday, Netflix laid off 1,000 workers — and Bajaria was asked by the streamer to conduct some of the layoffs, not knowing she’d be next on the chopping block and that her replacement was lined up to be announced, we hear.

Multiple sources told us that Bajaria was spotted at company Town Halls and meetings amidst the cuts, reassuring her remaining staffers — without knowing she’d be next in the line of fire mere hours later.

In a town that traditionally lives by the Oscar Wilde maxim, “A true friend stabs you in the front,” some Hollywood pros blanched at how Bajaria was dispatched.

“What was extra s–ty is that they made her go to these Town Halls and meetings of team leaders to be like, ‘This is a hard day,’ and to be all supportive and calm,” said one insider. “It’s like, just tell her to her face. They could have just fired her.”

Multiple sources around town said on Thursday they thought Bajaria was a “scapegoat” for Netflix’s financial woes, especially after its failed attempted acquisition of Warner Bros. Some said the company needed to make a move and sacrifice a top exec before an earnings call next week. “The problem with Netflix is they have two CEOs making over $100 million, plus a CFO,” huffed an industry vet.

“I’m a little perplexed,” said a top Hollywood agent. “Netflix is definitely looking for their next hit. They don’t have anything to replace ‘Stranger Things.’ They don’t have that big show that’s on deck. But how the f–k do you blame that on Bela? Other people have greenlight authority [too]. Bella was grabbing NFL rights and wrestling. I think Netflix is one of those weird new age digital corporations that’s like, ‘change is good.’ They are losing subscribers and the stock is down.”

Perhaps Netflix should try, you know, producing good content in order to draw viewers back in…

Yet, that doesn’t seem to be a strategy they are willing to try, yet.

Instead, we are getting a wokeified, rock opera version of C.S. Lewis’ Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew with Meryl Streep as Aslan.

Yes, really.

If you haven’t seen that trailer yet, here it is:

And, it’s already shaping up to be a disaster.

Insiders who have watched a test screening have reportedly called the film “awful.”

With so many other (frankly, better) streaming platforms out there, Netflix just isn’t competitive when all they turn out is low-quality, woke garbage.

Many folks on X say they have noticed a huge quality drop at Netflix over the years:

@bennyjohnson Netflix isn’t what it used to be. There was a time when it was a great value and provided solid entertainment and classic movies. But those days are long gone.
If you’re still subscribed to Netflix because of what they used to be, please reevaluate.

The old model worked: 20+ episodes a season, back within a year. Now it’s 8 episodes and a two-year wait. By the time season 2 drops, viewers have moved on.
Longer seasons also let writers adjust midseason, see what fans liked and didn’t, and correct course. Now the whole season is locked before anyone watches it.

@bennyjohnson Netflix keeps all the good movies expired. I cannot find any good movies over there for a long time.

@bennyjohnson Had some free time during travels and decided to buy subscription… Couldn’t find anything to watch… Literally

— Vincent Maverik (@MaverikVincent) October 14, 2026

@bennyjohnson Drives me crazy that I can’t find one show that doesn’t have homosexual relationships and sex at the forefront of the script.

Just ridiculous.

I gave up on Netflix when I found out that they put that **** in my kids’ series that they watched.

How dare they.

Are you surprised that Netflix is struggling?
