This is quite a messy situation.

And, quite frankly, hopefully, a misunderstanding.

Former Trump lawyer Alina Habba has accused former Kennedy Center Director Richard Grenell of failing to deposit a nearly $6 million donation made by her husband.

Mediaite had the full scoop of the allegations:

Things are heating up in MAGA world, and President Donald Trump is reportedly now getting involved in what’s being described as the “ultimate MAGA blood feud” over millions in Kennedy Center donations.

Axios’ Marc Caputo reported, citing four senior administration officials familiar with the situation and three “insiders” briefed on the meeting, that Alina Habba, Trump’s former attorney, dropped explosive allegations to the president on Monday.

Habba reportedly told the president that Richard Grenell, an advisor to the president, failed to deposit a nearly $6 million Kennedy Center donation from her husband, Turhan Mildon, a Turkish national with business interests in Venezuela.

Grenell dismissed the accusations as a “lie,” but the White House is launching a probe into the allegations.

Here was Grenell’s response to the claim:

It’s an absurd claim. I’ve never asked for one cent to be sent somewhere else pretending it was for the Kennedy Center and I’ve never received any payment from him at all. Make him give proof to what he is saying, not make these absurd allegations.

The New York Post reported that sources from the White House are unsure about Habba’s claims:

Three additional sources who are otherwise critical of Grenell, however, told The Post they doubt Habba’s claims.

A White House official said they were “very skeptical it’s true.” Another administration official said he views Grenell as “crooked” but that the Kennedy Center’s current leaders lack evidence to substantiate Habba’s tale. A person close to the White House called Grenell “self-destructive” but not “that dumb.”

“She must believe it because it’s really serious,” said one White House official. “[Scharf’s office] will get to the bottom of it.”

An administration official said that lawyers for Habba’s husband have provided documentation to the White House counsel’s office.
