El-Sayed Mocks ‘Conservative Folks’ In Absurd Interpretation Of Second Amendment

Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed speaking to voters

While the left continuously insists that the U.S. Constitution is a “living document” that must evolve to meet the needs of the day, they’re conspicuously reluctant to apply that concept to the Second Amendment.

Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed recently provided a prime example of how his party seems mired in the 18th century when it comes to the right to bear arms.

As Breitbart reported:

During a town hall in Midland, Michigan, on Saturday Democrat Senate candidate Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed (aka Abdul El-Sayed) said the Second Amendment boils down to protecting “equal rights to a musket.”

The National Desk published video of El-Sayed’s town hall, in which he said, “Conservative folks, they hew to this idea called ‘originalism,’ and ‘originalism’ is the idea that you should interpret the constitution in the context in which the constitution was written. When they promised the right to bear arms they had muskets, so, yes, everyone should have…equal rights to a musket.”

He did not mention that when the First Amendment protections on free speech were ratified everyone was writing with quill pens and there was no such thing as texting, emails, social media, or YouTube. However, the video of his town hall is being pushed out to the world with everything but quill pens.

Nevertheless, El-Sayed was not done. He continued to go after firearms: “…The question we need to be asking is, are there some guns that are built just to kill as many people as possible and do we really think that those guns ought to be publicly available?”

His remarks on the matter sparked significant social media criticism:

Abdul fundamentally misunderstands the constitution. The constitution doesnt promise us the right, the constitution promises to prevent the government from infringing on our god given rights.

Fox News revisited some of El-Sayed’s prior anti-gun rhetoric:

“What if we tweaked the Constitution, amended the amendment, and instead of the right to bear arms, we change it to the right to have health care?” he said in a YouTube video posted on April 6, 2023.

He claimed altruism in the proposal, saying more people would live. In that video, El-Sayed said that stripping Second Amendment rights and implementing a right to healthcare policy would lead to “fewer people dying by gun and more people living because they have healthcare.”

YouTube offers a feature to hide videos previously posted publicly without deleting them.

Though the hidden videos can’t be viewed, rough transcripts can be found on an internet archive site first revealed by CNN in a Monday report. The outlet reports that El-Sayed hid about 100 videos before launching his Senate campaign.

In one video from May 26, 2022, the transcript of which was viewed by Fox News Digital, El-Sayed made the argument that the Second Amendment does not apply to individual Americans and only applies to a regulated militia. He claimed that the stipulation written in the key constitutional right “couches the entire idea of not infringing on the right to bear arms in the idea of maintaining a well-regulated militia.”

Here’s a deeper look into the far-left candidate’s views:
