Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, plans to resign from her post, two sources familiar confirmed to the Daily Signal.
Dhillon has been a strong advocate for parental rights, religious liberty, and constitutional freedoms.
Attorney General Todd Blanche said he accepted Dhillon’s resignation on Thursday afternoon.
“She has defended the civil liberties of every American and enforced the law without fear or favor,” he wrote on X. “The Department is grateful for her dedicated public service, and we wish her every success in her future endeavors.”
While the Biden administration used the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act to throw pro-lifers in jail, Dhillon used it to prosecute attacks against pregnancy resource centers. She prosecuted people who obstructed worship services, and she sued to block school policies that allowed teachers to hide a student’s transgender identity from their parents.
“The Department will not tolerate school districts playing fast and loose with federal law in the service of radical gender ideology,” she said.
She also cleared thousands of noncitizens and dead people off voter rolls.
“We’re finding tens of thousands of noncitizens on the voter rolls, hundreds of thousands of dead people on the voter rolls, and duplicate registrations between states,” she said in March.
Under Dhillon, the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ has investigated several attacks on houses of worship, including synagogues. Dhillon has obtained several convictions in such cases.
Dhillon previously told Bloomberg reporters and editors that she planned to return to her Dhillon Law Group after leaving DOJ, Bloomberg reported.
She would be the first DOJ official to resign after the massive blue wave in midterms.
