The Department of Justice has gone to court to revoke the citizenship of about 40 “Americans” over just the last six weeks, as authorities race toward their goal of filing 250 such cases by the end of the month.
The surge more than doubles the number of such cases that have been filed since President Donald Trump returned to office in January 2025.
Attorney General Todd Blanche has confirmed that already there have been 40 cases brought by the DOJ between Aug. 28 and Oct. 2.
That he said, is the “largest denaturalization effort in modern history.”
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the Department of Justice will continue to employ the denaturalization process to maintain our national security and protect the American people,” Blanche said Tuesday.
According to a report at the Daily Mail, those people named so far in the cases are accused of crimes in 19 separate federal districts, and came from countries include Iran, Pakistan, China and Mexico.
“From an individual convicted of espionage to others convicted of sexual offenses against minors, these defendants concealed critical facts from the US government and represent serious criminal offenders,” Blanche has confirmed.
Many of the defendants face accusations they lied about, or omitted details of, their convictions on government application forms, as admitting those troubles would have made them ineligible for citizenship, the report said.
Immigration activists already are complaining the campaign may deprive individuals of their right to make a case in a federal court.
The report said between 1990 and 2017 only about 11 such cases were brought each year, on average.
