A “blunder” or something else?
President Donald Trump is calling out Maricopa County, Arizona, as a “very, very dishonest county” after some 3,100 general election ballots were mailed out before they were allowed to be mailed out, and the action was detected.
“Maricopa just sent out thousands of ballots in error. Maricopa County in Arizona and they have to be ashemed of themselves. By the way, there were no errors. You know that, right? … Maricopa sent out thousands of ballots illegally and they got caught and now they’re saying it was an error. Maricopa is a very, very dishonest county,” explained Trump.
His comments, followed by commentary from Patriot.TV:
A report at RVMNews said a vendor “error” “sent more than 3,100 general election ballots to Maricopa County voters six days earlier than scheduled.”
County officials claimed the actions were not authorized but the ballots would remain valid.
“Early voting was still a couple of days away when some voters began receiving their ballots. Early ballots were not supposed to be mailed until Wednesday, Oct. 7, making the unexpected deliveries an election calendar blunder,” the report said.
The county Recorder’s Office confirmed the ballots were mailed Oct. 1, nearly a week before they were allowed to be mailed.
“Runbeck Election Services made the error, according to the Recorder’s Office. Officials did not provide additional details explaining what caused the vendor to send the ballots before the authorized mailing date,” the report said.
A review of the mail process also was launched by the county.
It’s not the first time Maricopa has been embroiled in related scandals:
The county said it was moving forward with regularly processing the mistakes because of an opinion from the county attorney.
The situation has developed in an atmosphere where dozens and dozens of election fraud cases have been filed in recent weeks, despite Democrats’ allegations that such events never occur.
On a national scale, Trump and Republicans in Congress have been working to adopt the SAVE America Act, which would provide additional levels of security in national elections providing that only American citizens can vote, not illegal aliens.
