This just in: President Trump is declaring an “ECONOMIC D-DAY” against Iran!

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump wrote, “I am announcing the MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY! This will be Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale.”

President Trump warned that countries who do business with Iran will also face severe sanctions.

In addition, he re-iterated that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.

No one has given the Islamic Republic of Iran a greater opportunity to make a Deal than me. TRAGICALLY, for them, they have failed to take it. Therefore, today, I am announcing the MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY! This will be Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale. Their navy is gone, their air force is destroyed, their military factories are now rubble, their currency is worthless, and their country is hanging by a thread. Today, I am also announcing that ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences. Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies — It all needs to stop NOW. You know who you are. This will be an ECONOMIC D-DAY, and we need all of our Allies to stand with the United States of America to isolate, and defeat, the Iran threat. These maniacs are on the ropes, and these HISTORIC MEASURES will cripple them and their ability to project terror worldwide. IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. President DONALD J. TRUMP

President Trump’s announcement follows the formal expiration of a ceasefire deal (which had already fallen through) between the U.S. and Iran earlier this week.

Now, he’s no longer interested in negotiating!

This represents a significant shift in strategy as the Trump administration ramps up economic pressure on Iran in order to force the already-collapsing country to give up.

CNBC provided some additional context:

The announcement extends a pressure campaign the Trump administration has waged since April under the banner Operation Economic Fury, aimed at cutting off what it terms the regime’s global terror financing and revenue streams.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Washington of escalating sanctions after previous rounds failed to force Tehran into submission, calling the approach a barrier to any negotiated exit from the conflict.

The escalation comes a day after the United Arab Emirates — one of the most important commercial partners for Iran— suspended all trade and financial dealings with Tehran, following what it said were two Iranian ballistic missiles fired at the Gulf state. Iran denied launching the missiles, calling the claim a “false flag.”

Stock futures were slightly higher after Trump’s announcement, with S&P 500 futures gaining less than 0.1%.

With the U.S. in control of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has no real leverage left.

On Wednesday, CENTCOM announced that U.S. forces have re-directed dozens of commercial vessels that tried to slip past the blockade of Iranian ports.

As of Aug. 19, U.S. forces have redirected 65 commercial vessels, disabled 3 and boarded 2 to ensure compliance.

Earlier Wednesday, President Trump directly addressed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

He also added that the U.S. has imposed “draconian sanctions” on Tehran after collapse of the peace deal.

Fox News shared his remarks:

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Washington had imposed “draconian sanctions” on Tehran as he criticized Iran for failing to follow through on a deal with the U.S.

“Well, we have things that we could sanction,” Trump told reporters at a White House tech roundtable.

“We have very draconian sanctions, and we’ll see what happens.

“Right now, the Strait is open. A lot of boats are coming through. People aren’t reporting that. And that may slow down a little bit at some point.

“But right now a lot of boats are coming through,” he added before describing how the naval blockade had been “extremely effective.”

“Except for a couple of little pauses where we opened it purposely at, with the deal. “But the deal didn’t turn out to be what they said. You know, when they tell us one thing and they do another.

“But the blockade has been 100% successful. No boats have gotten into Iran, but they are getting in for other places. But we’ll see. We’re going to see what happens.”

“It’ll either be extremely good and oil prices are going to drop like Iraq, or will continue to do exactly what we’re doing,” Trump added.

This is what peace through strength looks like!
