Just three years ago, the Brazilian president headlined the 2023 São Paulo Forum, the premier gathering of Marxist leaders throughout the Americas. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva markedly exclaimed, “To call us communist or socialist will never offend us. Never. On the contrary, it makes us proud. The people know that we deserve to be called that.” Naturally, over the course of his decadeslong career, his politics have forged a tight-knit friendship between his party, Partido dos Trabalhadores, and the Democratic Socialists of America.
In his speech, his political candor announced to the audience his true intentions: socialist expansion. From initially meeting the DSA with open arms during his first year in office to the continuing propagation of socialism in America 23 years later. Lula and the PT have a vested interest in the growth of socialism in the United States.
During the 21st century, the PT played the role of a quiet actor in assisting communist Cuba and Venezuela in building the socialist “Pink Tide” that spread across Latin America. But as the anarchic, socialist chaos that defined the first quarter of the century is coming to an end, a yearning for peace across Latin America has stirred a desire for conservatism. This new enthusiasm has led to a wave of conservative victories, with the likes of El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele and Argentina’s Javier Milei becoming exceedingly popular figureheads.
The political juggernaut of Latin America, Brazil, is just a month away from a key presidential election. In a new poll, Lula holds a slight lead over his conservative opponent Jair Bolsonaro, 46% to 44%. A Lula victory would come with an unprecedented fourth term and would embolden a socialist government that has actively supported socialism across the Western Hemisphere. Inside the U.S., nobody has more to win or lose from the outcome of the election than the DSA.
During the PT’s socialist reign, it has made the most of its power. Actively hosting international forums that bring together Marxist cliques and train ranks for often violent democratic victories. The government-backed political assistance has invigorated the Marxists of the Americas. As Lula proudly stated why he created the São Paulo Forum, “I began talking with comrades from the Communist Party of Cuba and with Comrade Fidel Castro, and we raised the possibility of holding a meeting with the entire Latin American Left. … That was how the idea of calling the first São Paulo Forum was born.”
When the DSA received its invitation to the XXII Congress of the Socialist International, it gladly accepted the call and met with the PT in 2003. At the Congress, they crafted and signed the Declaration of São Paulo, with the express purpose of calling upon all progressive people and organizations to form a new world order. Embracing an internationalist socialist league, mirroring the objective of the Soviet Union.
Since their first meeting, the organizations have further bonded. The DSA has taken advantage of Brazil’s diplomatic assistance by becoming the lapdog of Marxist governments across Latin America. Furthering their declaration, in 2019, the DSA Convention Resolution resolved that “The International Committee shall prioritize establishing relations with socialist and working class organizations in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Canada, Brazil, the Caribbean, and Latin America broadly.”
Since the resolution, the DSA has stood by its word, becoming a member of the Sao Paulo Forum, where it pledged it would deepen ties with the Chinese Communist Party, and met with Marxist narco-terrorists and various Latin American authoritarian leaders. At the same time, cooperating with the PT’s party fund and nonprofit organization Fundação Perseu Abramo in hosting “Socialist Strategy & Tactics in Times of Crisis,” a program designed to share strategies on building socialist coalitions with the stated goal of fighting the “far-right menace in the Americas.” The coalition is bringing together not just the PT and DSA, but also the progressive caucus of the U.S. Congress, holding official meetings with the caucus ahead of the 2026 midterm elections to discuss how best to combat President Donald Trump.
‘BREAK THE LAW AND GET AWAY WITH IT’: INSIDE THE YOUTH GROUP TRAINING CAMPUS RADICALS
This bilateral exchange has galvanized DSA chapters to create their own “Pink Tide” and embrace the sole intention of inciting constituents and winning elections. Happily, practicing the strategy of coyly subverting the nation’s people and constitution. In executing this treasonous goal, Brazil has offered guidance to the DSA.
The upcoming Brazilian election will play a major role in the future of the DSA, leaving the organization in a state of emergency if the heart of South American socialism stops beating. Vocally anti-socialist, conservative governments in Brazil and the U.S. would curb the power of nongovernmental organizations and foreign-backed initiatives that are currently propagating the cancerous growth of the DSA. With a tight election deciding the next four years of socialism throughout the Americas, there must be a concerted effort to defeat socialism at home and abroad.
