Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) said on Sunday he believes U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle will be investigated following a series of reports alleging ethics violations.

While speaking with Margaret Brennan on Face the Nation, Barrasso was asked whether there might be an investigation, such as an inquiry by the Department of State Office of Inspector General, into questions surrounding her conduct in office. A series of three Wall Street Journal reports released in recent weeks outline allegations that she tapped a Trumpworld ally to pay off $100,000 in credit card debt and that Greek businessmen have paid for luxurious travel arrangements.

A member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Barrasso said he cannot confirm an investigation is underway, but he believes one may happen. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are considering firing Guilfoyle and are “extremely pissed off” by the alleged conduct, a senior U.S. official told the Associated Press on Sunday.

“What we’ve seen in the reports is very troubling, it’s concerning, and I’m sure there’s going to be an investigation,” Barrasso said. “I would assume the State Department would be conducting that, I know that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will have oversight and look into that as well. But I think the public has a right to know what is found, and it is quite a bit of concern.”

When asked if he’s comfortable with U.S. officials’ debts being paid off in exchange for political access, Barrasso said he’s not, but he’s currently focused on campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of November’s midterm elections. Reports indicate Democrats are likely to investigate Trump administration officials’ business ties if they retake the House of Representatives in November to lay the groundwork for potential articles of impeachment.

“You know, we’re going to be back after the elections,” he said, “but for the next three weeks we are going to be campaigning across the country, and I’m sure we’ll discuss that later, but the focus today is making sure the American people know just how far left the Democrats have gone.”

RUBIO LASHES OUT AT MEDIA FOR DEMANDING COMMENT ON GUILFOYLE REPORT

Rubio brushed aside concerns about Guilfoyle while speaking to reporters in Athens on Wednesday, saying the “embassy here is doing a great job” and that reports should not be treated like evidence of guilt. Rubio delivered an address in front of the Acropolis during his three-country European tour that received widespread praise from Republicans.

Guilfoyle, 57, broke a multiyear engagement to Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., in 2024. She was previously married to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and has worked as a Fox News host and prosecutor. She was confirmed as ambassador to Greece in September 2025.
