Troy Jackson
Democrat delegates in Maine have chosen their U.S. Senate candidate to replace the scandal-plagued Graham Platner who was forced to drop out of the race after numerous disturbing revelations and allegations.
Over the weekend, a majority of delegates chosen to represent their counties in Saturday’s Democratic nominating convention pledged to choose Troy Jackson to carry the party banner and face Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins in November. Presumably, that decision will become official July 25.
Jackson, however, is not without his own troubles in the form of a pair of alleged improprieties.
As Eric Daugherty put it on X, “Democrats in Maine will be nominating a candidate accused of MORTGAGE FRAUD and throwing a bottle at a woman for U.S. Senate.”
Jackson, who served for six years as the Maine Senate president and, like Platner, portrays himself as a blue-collar working man, was the subject of an ethics complaint in 2023 regarding a 2019 home purchase in Augusta, Maine, using an FHA loan. The Gateway Pundit explains Jackson signed documents stating the Augusta property would be his primary residence but continued to claim Allagash as his residence for legislative and other purposes.
The Maine Ethics Commission reviewed complaints but did not pursue action against Jackson.
The other allegation involves a claim Jackson threw a bottle at a female colleague during an argument. A group called Progressive Victory claims the incident is an “open secret” in Maine politics.
A since-deleted post from the group claimed:
“In our discussions, we have received troubling information about not only Jackson’s behavior, but the behavior of many prominent Maine Democrats toward women more broadly. Both as a result of the credibility of the sources and in the interest of not seeing our movement make the same mistake twice, we are choosing to share some of this now,” the post reads. “As Maine Senate President in a state Senate caucus meeting several years ago, Troy Jackson, in a heated disagreement, struck a female colleague with a bottle he threw at her. There are many witnesses, and it appears this is a widespread open secret within Maine politics and not an isolated incident. This information is still developing and we will provide updates in a thread in the comments of this post as we receive it.”
Jackson faces a formidable electoral challenge in November, as Collins, a U.S. senator since 1997, is polling strongly in her reelection bid.
