President Donald Trump had the room laughing during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on Sunday after delivering a series of jokes aimed at Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
While thanking attendees for joining the annual event, Trump joked about the dinner’s beef tenderloin, playfully suggesting Kennedy had personally supplied the meal.
“I hope that everyone finally got to enjoy their entire very delicious beef tenderloin, very special beef,” Trump said.
“I want you all to know that Bobby Kennedy, who’s right here, personally ran over the cow in his car. He cut it up and he brought it here for you to eat tonight, so it’s very fresh.”
The president continued the joke by referencing widely reported stories about Kennedy’s past anecdotes involving roadkill and animal carcasses, which have drawn significant media attention over the years.

“Bobby also suggested an appetizer featuring his favorite cut of male raccoon roadkill,” Trump said. “But we drew the line at that, Cheryl. We said, no, we’re not going to do that. We’re not doing that.”
The remarks drew laughter from the audience and were among several humorous roasts Trump delivered throughout the evening targeting members of his Cabinet, Democrats, journalists, and media personalities. As the crowd laughed, Trump added, “We love Bobby. I’ll tell you, he’s a piece of work.”
Trump then shifted to a more serious tone, praising Kennedy’s work leading the Department of Health and Human Services.
“You think it’s fun, but he is a very different kind of a person. I will tell you,” Trump said. “But he has what it takes, and he’s smart, and he loves the country, and he wants people to be made to feel good.”
The exchange was one of several lighthearted moments during Trump’s speech at the dinner, with the president mixing humor about members of his administration with praise for their work in office.
Kennedy, who joined Trump’s Cabinet after endorsing him during the 2024 campaign, has become one of the administration’s most prominent officials. As HHS secretary, he has focused on initiatives related to chronic disease, nutrition, and public health, while continuing to draw attention for his outspoken and unconventional style.
