VIDEO: Central American Migrant Caravan Surges North Toward U.S. as Members Root for Democrat Midterm Win

A fresh migrant caravan made up largely of Central Americans is moving north through southern Mexico — and some members are openly telling a reporter they hope Democrats win the November midterm elections.

The group left Tapachula, Chiapas, near Mexico’s border with Guatemala, on October 20. Estimates have ranged from roughly 400 to more than 600 people.

Independent reporter Julio Rosas captured video of the caravan’s departure and reported that some of the migrants told him they were rooting for a Democratic victory.

By Friday, the story was continuing to circulate as the caravan advanced through southern Mexico:

The political timing is impossible to miss. Election Day is November 3, and the caravan’s movement is now unfolding as Americans decide control of Congress.

But the group’s destination is not entirely uniform.

Milenio reported that roughly 400 migrants had gathered in Tapachula after traveling from Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua. Some said they intended to seek work in Mexican states such as Oaxaca or Nuevo León, while others hoped to continue farther north.

The local outlet described families traveling with children after running low on money during long walks through Central America. One Salvadoran woman said unemployment drove her family to leave home and that poor weather, dehydration and injuries had made the journey more punishing.

Milenio also reported that separate groups had crossed into Mexico during the preceding week before regrouping in Tapachula. The caravan then resumed its march along the coastal route through Chiapas.

Video and images posted after the departure showed hundreds moving along highways in southern Mexico:

By Thursday, La Jornada reported that the group had reached Huixtla after walking approximately 45 kilometers. The Mexican newspaper placed the caravan’s size above 600 and identified it as the second “Fe y Esperanza” caravan.

Those figures underscore why the word “massive” is being used in coverage, but they also demand precision. This is a large organized movement of hundreds — not the many thousands seen in some previous caravan waves.

The midterm angle rests on direct statements from some participants, not on proof that every person in the caravan shares the same political calculation.

Rosas said the migrants he interviewed were watching promises being made by Democrats and believed a congressional victory could create political momentum extending into the 2028 presidential election.

That does not mean a midterm result would automatically change U.S. border policy. President Trump would remain in office, and the executive branch would continue enforcing federal immigration law.

The administration is making that point forcefully.

The Epoch Times reported that the Department of Homeland Security responded to current footage of the march by warning there was “absolutely zero chance” the caravan would be allowed to enter the United States.

The outlet also cited a Honduran migrant who said he hoped conditions might change after the election. The federal response came as footage of the group’s progress through southern Mexico circulated online.

DHS’s direct public answer to that hope was blunt: political hopes do not create a lawful path into the country.

Under President Trump, the southern border is no longer operating under the catch-and-release incentives that fueled the Biden-era crisis. Anyone attempting an illegal crossing faces detention, prosecution and removal.

There is also no guarantee this caravan will get anywhere near the U.S. border.

Mexico has repeatedly broken up or redirected similar groups before they crossed beyond its southern states. The previous “Fe y Esperanza” caravan was dispersed near the Chiapas-Oaxaca line after Mexican immigration officials processed its members.

Still, the images matter.

Hundreds of migrants are again moving north while openly watching an American election, and at least some believe a Democratic win could eventually reopen opportunities that President Trump has shut down.

That is a revealing bet — and one American voters deserve to see before they cast their ballots.
