Vice President JD Vance promised to honor subpoenas on administration officials allegedly “selling access” to the White House if Democrats retake control of Congress this fall.
Vance made the vow at a town hall during a pretaped CBS News interview airing Saturday.
“Of course,” he told CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil when asked about complying with Democrat-led subpoenas. “Of course I will. Look, I mean, we follow the law. I follow the law.”
Concerns about Trump officials selling access to the White House arose in relation to the resignation of Kimberly Guilfoyle, the former U.S. ambassador to Greece, earlier this week. Before her Senate confirmation last year, Guilfoyle reportedly made appeals to Trump donor Eric Deters to pay off her $100,000 American Express credit card bill in exchange for help from the administration with his personal tax and legal matters. She also promised to give Deters access to top administration officials in return for money and gifts.
Guilfoyle announced her departure from the administration on Tuesday shortly after White House press secretary Katie Zacharia revealed she was asked to resign.
The vice president said he found the reported behavior deplorable, adding those who are engaging in it should be punished.
“If somebody’s selling access to the White House, that’s disgusting and despicable and they should suffer consequences,” Vance said. “I want to make those judgments based on the facts and not based on a random news media report that I read.”

The full interview with Vance will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ at 8 p.m. Saturday.
President Donald Trump has also tried distancing himself from Guilfoyle in the wake of the controversy, saying she wasn’t a member of his family. Guilfoyle dated Donald Trump Jr. from 2018 to 2024 before they ended their engagement.
