Griffin was taken down by a good guy with a gun who happened to be driving by when the shooting took place.

This hero, whose children attend the school where the shooting happened, dropped what he was doing and bravely stormed into the building to handle the situation himself.

He has also been identified as 36-year-old Kaylub Giamanco.

More on that here:

At this time, Griffin’s motive has not been revealed.

But, more details are being revealed about what occurred.

We know that he targeted a special needs classroom, killing the teacher and three young children, as well as wounding another 7-year-old child in a wheelchair and another teacher before he was taken down.

The New York Post provided a detailed breakdown of the events:

Griffin, 16, is seen in the eerie photo posted on Facebook by his mother, Shauntai May Nickerson, on Sept. 10 — just over a month before he killed three students, ages 5, 8, and 11, and a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary School on Thursday.

The mustachioed teen appears sullen and miserable in the snap while wearing an oversized hoodie alongside Nickerson in front of a waterfall.

Griffin opened fire with a Maverick 88, a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun, previously purchased by his mother, law-enforcement sources said.

He first threw the deadly firearm over the fence at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend around 1 p.m. and hopped over, sources said.

The crazed teen then tried to enter through the school’s front door but was blocked by two bystanders, sources said.

Griffin ran around to the school’s back and shot at the locks on the doors, which were specially designed to prevent such tragedies, to break inside.

There, the young gunman stormed toward the special education classroom, where he was once a student.

He was fatally shot by hero dad, Kaylub Giamanco, who saw Griffin enter the building with a gun while driving home for his lunch break.

Griffin also critically injured another student, 7, and a teacher, 54. The 7-year-old student is in a wheelchair and was shot in the face during the rampage.

According to his mother, John Griffin was once a student at the school he targeted.

Past media reports indicate that he may have also been a student at the very same special needs classroom he targeted.

CNN shared:

The mother of the 16-year-old who shot and killed three children and a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, tells CNN, “he was a good boy.”

“I miss my boy. I’m so sorry,” the woman, who was sitting on her balcony, smoking and crying, told CNN when asked about her son.

“I’m so sorry, I wish I could have done something. I’m sorry for their loss,” she said in a message to the parents of those killed.

The woman told CNN there were no warning signs and wouldn’t comment on how her son got access to the gun used in the shooting.

The shooter’s parents were interviewed and were cooperative, a senior law enforcement official told CNN’s John Miller. The parents told investigators their son had attended Silver Rail Elementary School during their interview, the source said…

The mother of the 16-year-old who shot and killed three children and a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, told police last night that her son had attended the school where the shooting was, according to a senior law enforcement official briefed on the investigation. Officials have not publicly confirmed this.

That classroom may have been a place where he was a student back in 2020. During the COVID pandemic, his mom spoke with CNN affiliate KTVZ about how she hopes the in-person classes for special needs kids will resume. The class is described as being for kids with “intensive behavioral and social skills challenges.”

The mother, who works as a health aide at a local nursing home, had previously told KTVZ her then 10-year-old son had struggled learning from home and was looking forward to returning to school in 2020.

“I think it will be great for my son to get the help that he needs from the skilled teachers that he needs to get it from,” she told the station.

This whole situation is terrible.

Please keep all of the victims, their families, and the Bend community in your prayers.
