Malia Nummerdor says she was framed. Friends of the Florida mother, who was arrested after her estranged husband accused her of sexual contact with the family dog, have launched a fundraiser for her legal defense.
The friends say Nummerdor maintains the allegations are untrue and that the dispute with her husband, Erik, has upended her life and the lives of their two young sons. Their campaign asks people to help her obtain legal representation; it does not present evidence establishing that she was framed.
The new claim and fundraiser were reported Tuesday by the New York Post. The outlet says the campaign was started Monday by friends who describe Nummerdor as isolated, with no surviving parents, and say her children need stability during the case.
As of the Post’s report, the fundraiser had received fewer than $20 in donations.
The friends say Nummerdor and the boys have been displaced from their home and face mounting legal costs. The appeal says it is seeking support for legal representation, leaving the criminal allegations for the legal process to decide.
The Post reported that her husband could not immediately be reached for comment on the new claim. The campaign was launched after her release from jail.

That is one side of a deeply disturbing case. Investigators say they obtained surveillance footage from inside the home, along with sworn statements, after accusations surfaced online.
The recording, rather than the Facebook dispute alone, is central to the criminal charge.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office says detectives began investigating after learning of social-media posts alleging sexual activity with a pet. They contacted the person who made the accusation, took sworn statements and collected digital evidence from the home surveillance system.
Detectives interviewed Nummerdor on September 15. She acknowledged that she was the person in the footage and that the animal was the family dog, according to the agency.
She denied sexual contact, but detectives said her explanation did not fit what appeared on the recording. She requested an attorney, ending the interview, and was arrested on a second-degree felony charge of sexual activity involving animals.

The New York Post reports that Erik Nummerdor told deputies he had installed two home cameras while trying to find out who was taking money from a coin jar. He gave investigators access to the laptop containing the footage.
The arrest report, as described by the Post, says that gave investigators a source of evidence beyond his statements. Nummerdor told investigators she had been lying near and petting the elderly dog, the report says.
Deputies said she could not give a consistent explanation of her position or the dog’s placement in the video.
The report also says investigators asked about a second dog in the room, which Nummerdor mentioned during the interview. The Post says she has since been released from jail.
Its account leaves the original footage, the husband’s statements and Nummerdor’s explanation as the central points in dispute.

The fundraiser’s assertion of a setup is a serious claim, but its organizers have not publicly shown evidence that the video was fabricated or that the husband framed Nummerdor. The defense can challenge the recording and the circumstances in which it was obtained as the felony case proceeds.
For now, the charge remains an allegation. The case turns on what the original footage shows and what prosecutors can prove in court.
The animal at the center of this accusation deserves a full, honest accounting too.
