President Donald Trump has ramped up his criticism of former loyalists, including conservative commentator Tucker Carlson and former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, ahead of November’s crucial midterm elections.
“Tucker Carlson just met with Lightweight ‘Former’ Congressman, Thomas Massie, and Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Greene, LOSERS ALL! Tucker’s ‘Views’ have fallen through the floor, and will only get worse,” Trump said in a Truth Social post Aug. 21, also referring to the outgoing Rep. Massie, R-Kentucky.
Trump calling out his former allies comes as he’s facing negative approval ratings among many Americans, particularly over his handling of the Iran war. In recent months, his coveted endorsement has also been stress-tested in primaries across the nation as voters consider the economic impacts of a second Trump administration. That’s ahead of the midterms, which are typically low points for presidencies.
Carlson, Massie and Greene have all broken with Trump in recent years. Carlson said in July that he was making a third party after his break with the president, according to an interview with the Columbia Journalism Review.
In early August, Greene – who resigned from office in November 2025 after a public feud with the president and now is a fierce critic of him – posted a photo on X of a group of leading MAGA rebels in the Republican Party convened, saying their “movement has begun.”
Prominent leaders in the photo besides Greene were Carlson, Massie – who lost his reelection primary this year after public feuds with Trump – and Joe Kent, former director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center, who resigned from his position in March over opposing military action in Iran.
“We said no more foreign wars and we meant it and supported Donald Trump because he made that promise. But he’s betrayed us all,” Greene said in her Aug. 1 post. “Our commitment is America First for all Americans, right, left, and center.”
