President Donald Trump says he warned former President Joe Biden that Dr. Anthony Fauci “was no good,” but he didn’t listen.

“I called Biden to tell him Fauci was no good, either didn’t have a clue, or was dishonest,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Wednesday. “The call was well received, but sadly, not acted on. Biden went on to give Fauci vast destructive power. The rest is history! President DJT.”

His comments came ahead of Fauci appearing before the Senate on Wednesday, in a contentious hearing examining the origins of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic that claimed more than 1.2 million lives in the United States.

Trump heavily criticized the Biden administration, claiming that COVID-19 killed more Americans under Biden than under his own administration. “Many more people died of COVID under the Biden administration than under the Trump administration,” Trump said. “‘Operation Warp Speed’ was a spectacular success, in fact, many say, one of the most successful things ever done by an American president.” While more people died under the Biden administration, that was over a four-year period, while Trump dealt with the pandemic during the last year of his first term.

Trump also pointed to Fauci’s previous claims that the virus likely did not originate at a Wuhan wet market, stating the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director was “always trying to protect China.”

“I overrode Fauci on this. His ideas were crazy! I said from the beginning that the virus came from the Wuhan Laboratory in China. Fauci strongly disagreed,” Trump said.

Trump noted that he “inherited Fauci, who was there since the 1980s,” but said he “relied less and less on him, with each passing day.”

“Fauci was largely taken out of play, and then along came Sleepy Joe Biden, who made Fauci a ‘King!’” Trump said.

Trump’s latest comments contrast with his earlier public support for Fauci, during which Fauci said Trump was following his advice, that the two were getting along fine, and that Trump had not overruled him on COVID-19 decisions.
