Trump predicts another government shutdown in September

President Donald Trump predicted Wednesday that Democrats will force another government shutdown before the 2026 midterm elections in November.

Trump has already logged three government shutdowns during his first two years back in office, two of which stand as the longest shutdowns in American history.

Speaking in Marietta, Georgia, Wednesday, Trump predicted a fourth shutdown would be coming in September.

“You’re going to have a stoppage in September,” he told the crowd. “The Democrats won’t approve everything. They become deranged, like deranged Jack Smith. Remember that deranged sick puppy? They’re deranged and they won’t approve. You’re going to have a shutdown in September.”

Trump parlayed those comments into renewed calls for Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster, despite the opposition of Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD).

“Everybody, call John Thune at the Senate,” the president proclaimed. “He’s the leader of the Republican Party, and tell him to get this stuff approved.”

Earlier in his remarks, Trump claimed that, if Democrats take over the chamber’s majority in November, they would do the same.

“They’re going to terminate the filibuster as soon as they have a chance, and then they’re going to approve Puerto Rico and D.C. as a state,” he said. “They’ve got four more senators. They’re going to end up with 12 more congressmen. They’re going to get like 40 electoral votes. I may be crying then. I’ll be sitting home, and I’ll say, ‘I told them they’ve got to really terminate the filibuster.'”
