President Donald Trump delivered a presidential entrance Sunday morning when Air Force One roared over Medinah Country Club before he stepped onto the first tee at the Presidents Cup.
The flyover sent a surge through the Illinois crowd as the final day of one of golf’s premier international team events got underway.

Trump is serving as honorary chairman of the 2026 Presidents Cup, a traditional role offered to the head of state in the host nation.
But the president did far more than accept a ceremonial title from a distance. He flew to the Chicago suburbs, greeted Team USA and joined the flag-waving crowd for the decisive Sunday singles matches.
According to The Associated Press, Air Force One created the loudest buzz at Medinah before the grandstand was even full. The presidential jet passed over a course that had seen commercial aircraft descending toward O’Hare throughout the week.
Trump then arrived at the boisterous first tee, where music and patriotic energy are part of the Presidents Cup atmosphere.
The report said Trump planned to remain through the final tee time at 1:02 p.m. local time. He arrived with the American team trailing entering Sunday for only the fourth time in 32 years of competition.
Before leaving Washington, Trump called the honorary chairmanship a great honor and described the event as one of the biggest in golf. After landing at O’Hare, he praised the players’ combination of power and touch.

It was exactly the kind of appearance Trump understands instinctively: a major American sporting event, a loud crowd and Team USA fighting for every point.
The U.S. entered Sunday’s matches in the unfamiliar position of trailing. It was only the fourth time in 32 years of Presidents Cup competition that the American team began the final day behind.
That gave the president’s arrival extra weight. He was not walking into a routine victory lap.
He was showing up while the Americans faced pressure.
The Presidents Cup began in 1994 to give top international players from outside Europe a team competition against the United States. Unlike a standard PGA Tour tournament, the event is built around national pride rather than individual prize money.
Sunday’s format placed 12 one-on-one singles matches across Medinah’s historic Course No. 3, giving each player a direct chance to swing the overall result.
Trump kept his remarks short and immediately poked fun at the press coverage he knew would follow.

This was Trump’s second visit to the Presidents Cup as president. He attended the closing day in 2017 at Liberty National, where the American team was already close to securing victory.
His Sunday appearance at Medinah came with the outcome still very much in play.
The setting carried its own history. Medinah has hosted three U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships and the unforgettable 2012 Ryder Cup.
Now it has hosted a presidential flyover and a first-tee reception that made the final day feel even bigger.
Americans disagree about plenty, especially in Illinois. But for a few moments Sunday, the message from the grandstand was uncomplicated.
Air Force One was overhead. The president was on the first tee.
Team USA was fighting to bring the Cup home.
And the crowd was ready.
