Trump expands program: American veterans to replace immigrant drivers ousted from trucking

Fatal Florida truck accident

Over recent months dozens of Americans have died unnecessarily in road crashes triggered by immigrant truck drivers.

Many of them could not speak English and could not read or write the language, meaning road sides would mean nothing to them.

Further, they obviously sometimes had no concept of traffic safety, proven by the driver who tried to turn around a big rig on a freeway, blocking traffic lanes entirely and causing multiple vehicles to crash.

President Donald Trump’s “Freedom Haulers” program, he now has confirmed, already has removed “more than 24,000 non-English speakers from behind the wheel.”

Further, he confirmed states have canceled “more than 28,000 commercial driver’s licenses unlawfully issued to illegal aliens.”

So who’s going to be driving?

“As we get illegal aliens off the roads today, we’re also taking action to replace these unqualified migrant truck drivers with highly qualified American veterans,” he confirmed.

He said the pipeline to jobs already is being assembled.

“Any American who has driven a heavy truck for our military will automatically be eligible for a commercial driver’s license, and it’s good paying jobs too,” he said.

A report at the Daily Signal said the Department of Transportation is expanding eligibility for veterans to receive expedited commercial driver’s licenses, extending the waiver period from 12 months to 24 months after active-duty service.

“Veterans who lack heavy commercial vehicle driving experience will be eligible for training. Nebraska-based trucking company Werner Enterprises will announce that it plans to hire 1,400 new veteran drivers,” the report said.

The report explained part of the impetus for the project: “Last August, illegal immigrant truck driver Harjinder Singh pulled an illegal U-turn in Florida, killing three American citizens. According to the Transportation Department, three states—Washington state, New Mexico, and California—may have violated federal regulations in granting Singh a commercial driver’s license.”

“By leading a multi-agency process spanning the departments of Transportation, Labor, Veterans Affairs and War, President Trump is bolstering America’s trucking industry, which is crucial to strong supply chains, while helping our nation’s heroes transition to civilian life with quality, good-paying jobs,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly told Fox News Digital.
