President Donald Trump portrayed the French protests as a cautionary tale for the United States during a rally in Kansas for under-pressure Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KY).
“If you want to see what is at stake in this election, just look at what’s happening in France, a once great nation that is being conquered, looted, and burned to the ground by migrants, jihadists, and communists who hate Christianity, and they hate, frankly, the Western civilization itself,” Trump told a crowd in Wichita on Monday.
Trump claimed that in Europe, “globalist, left-wing politicians have treasonously imported millions and millions of third-world migrants who are totally incompatible with [the] West, and they are incompatible with Western values.”
“They despise everything about France, and they’re destroying that country,” he said. “We’re not going to let that happen to this country. … This is what’s happening to France. They want it to happen to our country. It’s never happening here.”
Trump’s appearance in Kansas, a state the president won in 2024 by 16 percentage points but that does have a Democratic governor, comes as polls indicate Marshall is in a tie with Democratic nominee Adam Hamilton, a pastor.
Marshall has been criticized, in part, for his residency and for his former OB-GYN practice suing more than 700 patients for unpaid bills, 81 of whom were arrested.
“He was given a bum rap because he was mandated by law to request strongly money owed from patients,” he said. “You’re not allowed not to do it. You have to, by law, go after those people. And they made it like, oh, he was some kind of a shylock-type guy.”
Trump, who was interrupted by multiple protesters, also used his platform to criticize Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul el Sayed as “an arrogant guy” and “a fake doctor” because he does not hold a medical license and has never practiced as a licensed physician, in addition to having family members who identify with the Islamic organization the Muslim Brotherhood.
“How would you like to have him on the intelligence committee, leaking, leaking, leaking, leaking?” Trump asked.
Trump was asked about the French protests earlier Monday as he departed the White House after the student-led demonstrations over education funding in France transformed into widespread riots and looting prompted by frustration with the high cost of living, particularly energy prices.
French President Emmanuel Macron apportioned responsibility to the U.S.-Iran war, “a conflict in which France has taken no part but whose consequences we are suffering,” the French leader said.

In response, Trump told reporters that he advised Macron he was “making a big mistake in France” by “letting everybody from the world come in.”
“Paris is going to be a Muslim city very soon,” he said. “I told Emmanuel, ‘You should close up your borders.’ … I’ve known him for probably eight or nine years. I told him as soon as I met him. I said, ‘You’re making a big mistake.’ We closed our borders. He didn’t.”
