Talarico’s Epstein Attack On Paxton Boomerangs As His Own Donor Network Draws Scrutiny

Texas Democrat James Talarico spent September trying to turn Jeffrey Epstein into a campaign weapon against Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton.

Now that attack is boomeranging.

The Paxton campaign is pointing to $11.5 million that Democratic megadonor Reid Hoffman gave to a super PAC supporting Talarico. Hoffman has acknowledged meeting with Epstein after Epstein became a registered sex offender, and he has said he regrets ever interacting with him.

That does not establish that Talarico personally knew Epstein. It does, however, leave him answering an obvious question after accusing his opponent of failing Epstein’s victims: Why is a pro-Talarico political machine taking millions from a billionaire whose own Epstein contacts are documented?

The fresh scrutiny exploded Wednesday as researchers circulated records about Talarico’s financial arrangements and his donor network.

The viral post combines two lines of attack, but the public record requires a careful distinction.

One involves the Epstein controversy. The other involves an LLC Talarico formed and an accountant who markets sophisticated tax planning to wealthy clients.

The Texas Tribune reported that Lone Star Rising, a super PAC supporting Talarico, accepted $11.5 million from Hoffman.

The outlet also reported that Justice Department records showed Hoffman remained in contact with Epstein after Epstein’s 2008 conviction. Hoffman has denied wrongdoing and apologized for the association.

The Tribune described Hoffman as a major Democratic donor whose relationship with Epstein drew renewed scrutiny after records were released. Paxton’s campaign used that history to accuse Talarico of attacking billionaires in public while benefiting from a billionaire-funded outside effort.

Talarico’s campaign said federal law bars coordination with the super PAC and emphasized that the candidate supports releasing the full Epstein files. That distinction protects the campaign from controlling the donation, but it does not erase the political contradiction now driving the Republican counterattack.

Talarico’s campaign answered that federal law prohibits coordination between candidates and super PACs, meaning Talarico does not control the outside group’s donations or spending.

That legal distinction is real, and even Talarico’s defenders are emphasizing it.

1. he’s not on the TEA committee not does he have the power to approve contracts over $1 million dollars. Mike Morath, apptd by Abbott, approves those contracts. Not corruption.
2. A super PAC that supports Talarico accepted $$ from Reid Hoffman. Talarico nor his campaign did.…

But the political problem remains. Talarico chose to make Epstein a central line of attack against Paxton while an outside organization spending to elect him was bankrolled by one of the Democratic Party’s most prominent billionaires with documented Epstein ties.

Voters are allowed to notice the hypocrisy.

Talarico made the issue personal at a Dallas event earlier this month, where he appeared with Epstein survivors and demanded that Paxton sue the Justice Department over unreleased records.

He accused Paxton of ignoring survivors and framed the dispute as a test of whether the attorney general would fight for the full truth.

Paxton’s campaign fired back that Talarico’s political infrastructure had taken millions from Hoffman.

The response did not connect Talarico personally to Epstein. It exposed the danger of throwing around guilt-by-association attacks while billionaire money is pouring into the race on your own side.

CBS News Texas reported that Talarico made the demand during a press conference at a traveling Dallas exhibit containing roughly three million pages of Epstein-related records.

Talarico appeared with survivors and accused Paxton of ignoring their request for a meeting. He called on the attorney general to sue the Justice Department for the release of the remaining files.

The event was part of Talarico’s effort to use the national spotlight around the Republican midterm convention against his opponent. The report also noted that the Texas Senate race is extremely close and that Talarico has held a major fundraising advantage.

Talarico also told the outlet that voters should judge him on his eight years in the Texas House and the bipartisan bills he helped pass. The exchange showed how he was trying to pair his Epstein attack with a broader argument that he could turn his state record into a statewide victory.

The separate tax controversy adds another layer.

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Talarico formed Nine Banded LLC on September 16, 2025, one week after entering the Senate race. The timing placed the new entity squarely inside his transition from state legislator to statewide candidate.

The filing named Austin accountant Eric Pierre as its registered agent and used Pierre Accounting’s office as the company’s principal address.

Talarico identified himself as the LLC’s managing member in his personal financial disclosure. The same filing listed income from his legislative salary and education-consulting work along with several investment holdings.

Pierre publicly advertises advanced tax strategies and wealth-preservation planning for high-net-worth clients. Talarico later signed a book deal with HarperCollins, creating speculation that the LLC could eventually handle advance or royalty income.

Pierre is also the author of The Great Tax Escape, a book about using legal strategies to reduce tax liabilities. His firm promotes planning designed to help affluent clients preserve more of their income.

The Free Beacon noted that the book agreement includes an advance and royalties on customary terms. As of Talarico’s Aug. 13 disclosure, he had not reported receiving income from the book, leaving the LLC’s eventual purpose unresolved.

The report did not allege that forming the company was illegal, and the records do not show that Talarico used it to evade taxes.

There is no public evidence that Talarico has used the LLC illegally or improperly. His financial disclosure said the company had no value and was inactive during the reporting period.

Still, the optics are brutal for a Democrat campaigning on promises to make wealthy Americans pay their “fair share.” He built a corporate structure with an accountant known for helping affluent clients reduce their taxes, then launched attacks on Paxton while billionaire-funded outside groups worked to put him in the Senate.

Texas could determine control of the Senate, and both parties know it.

A new Republican internal poll circulated Wednesday showing Paxton ahead 48 percent to 45 percent. Internal polls should always be treated cautiously, but the movement is exactly why the latest scrutiny matters.

Talarico wanted Epstein to become a moral indictment of Ken Paxton.

Instead, the issue has opened his own campaign coalition to scrutiny and reminded Texans how quickly Democratic claims about billionaires collapse when the billionaire is financing their side.

No evidence shows Talarico knew Epstein or participated in Epstein’s crimes.

The political problem is simpler: a candidate who demands accountability for his opponent must be ready to answer for the money powering the political operation trying to elect him.

On that question, Talarico’s attack did not land cleanly.

It came back at him.
