North Carolina House Democrats are yanking their support for one of their nominees after numerous posts allegedly linked to her social media accounts promoted violence against Trump supporters.
Shelly Headen is the Democratic nominee challenging incumbent Republican Rep. John Blust in Guilford County’s House District 62.
The Guilford County Democratic Party also withdrew its support for Headen.
“I think our only hope is an attack on US soil … preferably Alabama, Louisiana … where the stupid people live,” one Facebook comment read, according to WRAL.
WRAL has more:
According to Breitbart, a post from one of Headen’s social media accounts showed her pictured at the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany.
The alleged post said “this is where Trump supporters belong.”
North Carolina House Speaker Destin Hall, R-Caldwell, said the posts should disqualify Headen from public office.
“Somebody who goes out and essentially calls for violence against their political opponents, makes light of that sort of violence, it’s just not appropriate for them to serve in the General Assembly,” Hall told WRAL.
Hall said “she has a First Amendment right to say whatever she wants to say,” but added that “she doesn’t have a right to serve the people of her district.”
