Russia Strikes McDonald’s Warehouse In Ukraine

Russia struck a warehouse used by McDonald’s during its drone attacks on Kyiv on Friday, Sept. 25, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

“An attack drone against ordinary food,” Zelensky wrote in a Telegram post, describing the strike on the company’s warehouse.

The president did not report casualties specifically at the warehouse. He said the attack formed part of Russia’s expanding campaign against civilian infrastructure and foreign businesses operating in Ukraine.

“American and other businesses, data centers, internet providers – all ordinary life is simply a target for Russia,” Zelensky said.

Zelensky said four people were killed when a Russian drone struck an office building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district. Seven others were injured, including a child.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said cars caught fire in the parking area near the building, with emergency crews later extinguishing the blaze.

Another medical facility in the Solomianskyi district was also damaged during the attack. Three people who were near the facility, including a child, were hospitalized.

Across Kyiv, five people were killed and 27 injured in Russian attacks throughout Friday, according to the latest figures provided by city authorities.

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine on Wednesday warned that Russia’s “ridiculous and never-ending war” on his country could soon spread to other parts of Europe and called for increased economic pressure on Moscow to force a peace agreement before the fighting enters another deadly winter.

Diplomatic impasses and the global economic fallout from armed conflicts have dominated discussions during the annual gathering of world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly. In his speech to the body, which he delivered in English, Mr. Zelensky offered reminders of the wide-ranging effects of Russia’s war, from grain shortages to fuel prices to the frenzied race to create ever more deadly drone technology.

And he predicted how artificial intelligence, which has catapulted to the top of the Assembly’s agenda, might find some of its darkest uses. “As early as next year, there is a real possibility that A.I., not only people, will decide what happens on the battlefield,” Mr. Zelensky said. “We need peace before we reach that point.”

Mr. Zelensky made his remarks on a day when the leaders of two nations that have come in the cross hairs of the U.S. military in the past year, Iran and Venezuela, appeared before the assembly. Their speeches could not have been less alike.
