Robot Mowers Invade America’s Golf Courses, Putting Groundskeepers On Notice | ZeroHedge
A COUPLE OF WEEKS BACK I COMMENTED ON WATCHING A MAN USE ONE OF THESE ON AN APARTMENT COMPLEX PROPERTY TO LITTLE EFFECT. I SAW HIM OUT THERE AGAIN LAST WEEK, SAME THING. MOWER UNABLE TO COPE WITH THE GRADE, GUY STANDING THERE RUNNING IT. WHAT ONCE COULD BE ACCOMPLISHED BY A TEENAGER WITH A $200 WEEDWHACKER AND AN HOUR OF HIS TIME NOW TAKES ALL DAY WITH A $3,000 ROBOT AND A FULL-TIME OPERATOR. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IN THE FINISHED PRODUCT BEING A TRIMMED SLOPE WHEN THE TEENAGER DID THE JOB AND A MARRED AND INCOMPLETE ONE WHEN TENDED TO BY THE ROBOT AND ITS OPERATOR.

Garcia noted, “After that, it can move around and handle the work, but we’re still there monitoring it and making sure everything runs properly.”

AUTONOMOUS: denoting or performed by a device capable of operating without direct human control
