President Trump Responds to Botched Christa Pike Execution — “It Shouldn’t Be Very Difficult!”

President Trump just issued his response to the failed death row execution that took place on Wednesday night in Tennessee.

As you probably already know, convicted murderer Christa Pike was slated to be executed by lethal injection.

However, what should have been a straightforward execution method turned into a complete disaster when Pike somehow survived two rounds of the lethal injection drug pentobarbital.

When asked about it by reporters today, President Trump admitted that he is as shocked as the rest of us.

“How does that happen?” President Trump asked,

“Should be easy to do. It shouldn’t be very difficult!”

Following the botched execution, emergency crews rushed in and Pike was transported to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has ordered an investigation and postponed all remaining death row executions for the rest of the year.

The New York Post has more on the situation:

Pike, 50, was slated to be the first woman put to death by the state in 200 years. She was convicted of torture and murder after brutally bludgeoning a classmate to death and hacking her body with a box cutter in 1995, when they were teens.

She is alive and in critical condition.

Pike was stabbed with at least seven needles, her attorneys said Thursday, during the botched procedure.

Randy Spivey, one of her lawyers, called what happened “cruel and torturous” and urged Gov. Bill Lee (R-Tenn.) to commute her sentence to life in prison.

Pike had actually requested to be executed by hanging, arguing that blown veins in her arm would make it hard for the executioner to access them for the pentobarbital.

Lee suspended all executions in the state pending review. He said what happened to Pike was a “tragedy.”

President Trump is right: carrying out a death sentence shouldn’t be a hard thing to do!

At this time, we don’t know exactly what went wrong with Pike’s execution, but we’ll be the first to bring you further developments as more details emerge.

In light of what happened, however, many folks are calling for a change to execution methods:

The firing squad has a 100% success rate for over 200 years.

Bullets and rope work just fine. I fail to see what advantage lethal injection provides. That said, there’s no reason for lethal injection to be so complicated. I’ve had dogs put down. It’s an extremely simple process. They fall asleep, and stop breathing. It’s not that hard.

Fox News discussed the issue further in this clip:

“There was a 7% botch rate for lethal injections, compared to 0% for firing squads.”

@KayleeDMcGhee points to the reported botched-execution rate for lethal injection as she unloads on Tennessee’s failed execution of Christa Pike and questions whether the country has become too “squeamish” about how the death penalty is carried out.

“Maybe the solution is for us to stop being squeamish as a society and to recognize that punishment is necessary and that maybe we’re going to have to make some difficult calls about how it’s handed down.”

Her comments come as Gov. Bill Lee orders a review into what went wrong with Tennessee’s execution attempt on Pike.

What do you think?

Should states consider returning to more traditional, effective execution methods?
