President Trump Launches ‘Super Intelligence Force’ — America’s AI Race Gets a War Room

President Trump just gave America’s artificial-intelligence race a command center — and put the nation’s top intelligence official in charge.

Trump announced Sunday that Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton will lead a new “Super Intelligence Force,” or SIF, built to coordinate federal policy around the technology reshaping the economy, national security, and everyday life, according to The Associated Press.

The president framed the mission in unmistakably competitive terms: keep America ahead of every rival, especially China.

The force will bring together agencies that normally approach AI from very different directions. Consumers, public-interest groups, religious organizations, critical-infrastructure providers, and the companies building advanced systems are all supposed to have a place in the conversation.

Alongside Clayton, Trump named Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon technology chief Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor to leadership roles.

The group will report directly to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. That chain of command matters because it gives the project a path around the usual maze of agencies protecting their own turf.

The mandate reaches far beyond another Washington technology committee. National security, free speech, consumer protection, religious liberty, power-grid resilience, and American industrial leadership are all being pulled to the same table.

Washington is trying to solve two problems that pull in opposite directions.

America needs room to innovate fast enough to beat China. Families also deserve protection from fraud, deepfakes, privacy abuse, political manipulation, job disruption, and automated systems nobody can explain.

Trump’s approach is to establish American leadership first, then use existing institutions to confront concrete harms. The administration has resisted a global regulatory scheme that could hand foreign governments influence over how American AI develops.

There is a message in Trump’s choice of Clayton, too.

Trump handed the job to the director of national intelligence, not a public-relations office. The decision signals that the administration sees AI as a strategic contest with consequences far beyond Silicon Valley.

The models, chips, data centers, talent, energy supply, and security standards behind AI are becoming instruments of national power. The country controlling the strongest systems will gain an advantage in science, defense, manufacturing, medicine, and intelligence.

Trump has compared the scale of the change to the Industrial Revolution and the internet. The federal government cannot afford to discover too late that another country treated the technology more seriously.

The new force still has to prove it can produce action instead of paperwork.

Its success should be judged by clear results: keeping frontier technology in American hands, hardening critical infrastructure, stopping abusive uses, protecting constitutional freedoms, and making sure ordinary Americans benefit from the productivity boom.

The worst outcome would force a choice between Chinese dominance and an American regulatory machine that crushes innovation before it can deliver.

Trump is aiming for a third path — move fast, stay first, protect the public, and keep the decisions in American hands.

The AI race was never merely a technology story.

With the launch of the Super Intelligence Force, the White House is treating it like what it is: a contest over who shapes the next era of human power.
