President Trump criticized Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) for making it difficult for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to win his Senate election against Democrat Texas state Rep. James Talarico.

“Sadly, and very stupidly, John Cornyn, and his Liddle’ Buddy, Super RINO, Karl Rove, are doing everything possible to make it hard for Ken Paxton, the Greatest Attorney General in the History of Texas, and one of the Best in the United States, to win the upcoming Midterm Election against a Radical Left Lunatic, James TalaFREAKO, who is the ANTITHESIS of Texas Values. John Cornyn who, after my Endorsement, lost the Primary to Ken by a very wide margin, and Karl Rove, who shouldn’t be allowed to spew his jealousy on FoxNews, should be ashamed of themselves,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“They are hurting Texas and, more importantly, hurting the United States of America! If Ken Paxton loses, it will be because of WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Political Hacks like John Cornyn and Karl Rove, who have ineffectively opposed me for my entire political career. As your ALL TIME WINNER in the History of Texas, ‘Trump won 96% of the Counties in Texas, 242 of 254. Harris won only 12 counties (FoxNews),’ and by MILLIONS of Popular Votes, the Highest in the History of Texas, your favorite President (ME!) is asking all of those who supported Senator John Cornyn to UNITE, and immediately switch your support to Ken Paxton,” Trump continued.

“He will be a Great Senator, just like he is a Great Attorney General. We cannot take a chance on having a FREAKO, sometimes referred to as James TalaFREAKO, as our man in Washington, D.C., representing the magnificent people of the Great State of Texas!” he added.

CNBC shared further:

Trump’s preemptive blame-casting came as Texas has surprisingly become one of the most competitive battlegrounds of the 2026 midterm cycle. Most recent polls show state Rep. Talarico maintaining a lead in the low-to-mid single digits over Paxton.

The reliably red state has not elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since 1988. In 2024, Texans voted for Trump over Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris by nearly 14 percentage points.

Meanwhile, Trump said he had no regrets endorsing Paxton over Cornyn in the GOP primary, saying the incumbent “would have lost.”

Trump was asked if he would have second thoughts of endorsing Paxton if Talarico wins November’s election.

“No, because I think Cornyn would have lost. I think Cornyn would have lost,” Trump said.

“Here’s the way I look at it: Ken Paxton, some people don’t love him, but everybody admits he was the best attorney general in the history of Texas, one of the best in the country,” he continued.

“I dealt with all of them. He’s one of the best attorney generals in the country. He was the best in the history of Texas, and that’s the one, that’s the thing we really want to see,” he added.

The Hill has more:

Since losing in the state’s primary runoff, Cornyn has spoken out against the Trump administration and has not campaigned with Paxton. He also repeatedly expressed concerns about Paxton’s candidacy and its potential impact on the GOP ticket, given the state attorney general’s numerous scandals.

The president, who has been active in the contentious Senate race, also accused Democrat James Talarico of attempting to ban oil drilling in the Lone Star State.

“That should be the end of his [Talarico’s] campaign,” the president wrote early Friday on Truth Social.

He has also weighed in on the rumors around Talarico’s recent absence from the campaign trail. The progressive candidate has pushed back on the conspiracy theories, saying he was suffering from the flu.
