Pageant Winner Sues After Losing Title, Claims She Was Targeted For Conservative Beliefs

The Miss North Carolina USA contest has made headlines in recent weeks for stripping the crown from its latest winner, Brittany Boltinhouse.

In response, the contestant has asserted that her beliefs as a conservative Christian were at the root of the decision.

Now, she’s taking the organizations responsible to court, as The Hill reported:

Boltinhouse was stripped of her title earlier this month over “recently surfaced information” that went against the “standards and values” of the pageant, a statement released by A Blaize Productions, the organizers of Miss North Carolina USA, announced on Aug. 5. At the time, A Blaize Productions did not detail any of the “information” that led to their decision. But in a separate statement, Miss USA president and CEO Thom Brodeur appeared to indicate incidents of discriminatory actions or statements.

“The Miss USA organization does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia nor language that strips any person of their dignity — whoever they are,” Brodeur’s statement, made public on Instagram on Aug. 6, read.

Reports later surfaced of Boltinhouse using the word “n—a” on social media in 2017 and 2019.

The lawsuit has sparked a new wave of social media discussion:

This legal battle is going to put a massive spotlight on how organizations handle public controversies and title removals.

The New York Post added these details:

But the lawsuit claims her social media posts only became an issue after Boltinhouse, whose parents are Hispanic, had clinched the title.

“Nearly a decade later… when Brittany’s immigrant inspired work ethic was propelling her to the American dream, [the pageant organizers] would conspire to use these innocuous posts and their self-evident ubiquitous use of the popular slang term ‘n—a’ to falsely smear Brittany as a racist, homophobe, transphobe, and bigot,” they said.

“[Pageant organizers] hid from the public the real reason they dethroned Brittany: she is a conservative Christian.”

Boltinhouse previously claimed she was dethroned over her political beliefs – allegations which she has doubled down on in the lawsuit.

She attended President Trump’s speech on the National Mall on Jan. 6 2021, expressed support for Andrew and Tristan Tate, publicized her objections to former President Biden’s “Transgender Day of Visibility” proclamation in 2024, and issued a rallying cry to vote for Trump on the eve of the November 2024 election.

Here’s a clip of Boltinhouse’s remarks after losing her crown:
