Ossoff on ‘Election Integrity’: All Has Gone Wrong

Sen. Jon Ossoff has voted for “election integrity” measures, but not in the way you would think.

The Heritage Action Scorecard shows two instances during the 117th session of Congress (2021-2022) where Ossoff voted for seemingly good measures on paper that are ultimately wolves in sheep’s clothing.

As Stewart Bragg, general consultant for JLK Political Strategies, told the Daily Signal, “These bills go far beyond protecting the right to vote.”

This should come as no surprise to Georgians, as Chip Wyatt, Heritage Action’s government relations director for the Senate, said about Ossoff’s voting record, telling the Daily Signal, “When given the choice between stronger election safeguards and the Democratic Party’s long-running efforts to stymie them, Ossoff sides with his party every time.”

Election Integrity Gone Wrong

Heritage Action states that S. 2093, legislation that Ossoff voted for, “cloaks itself in the guise of transparency and fairness but, in reality, is a partisan scheme to choke off dissent and squelch conservative candidates and conservative political voices.” This bill, also known as the “For the People Act,” includes several concerning requirements.

One of these regulates ID requirements for individuals seeking to vote by mail by mandating that states cannot require an individual to show proof of identification to receive an absentee ballot. Ultimately, the bill allows for same-day registration, creating “chaos” at voting sites and opening the door for voter fraud.

The message that Ossoff sends to Georgia voters regarding election integrity and American citizens alone voting in free and fair elections is quite concerning. According to Jacquelyn Harn, communications director for Greater Georgia, “Ossoff’s votes suggest he believes ballots do not have to be limited to American citizens,” she told the Daily Signal.

“When it comes down to it, he will not defend the line between citizen and non-citizen at the ballot box.”

Similarly, Bragg noted that Ossoff prioritizes illegal aliens over the citizens of Georgia, and that “his voting record on immigration and election policy should show Georgians whose side he’s really on.”

The next bill Ossoff voted for, H.R. 4, also known as the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, would usurp the federal government’s power “to overturn voter ID laws and prevent states from ensuring the integrity of their own elections,” the Heritage Action scorecard states.

Similar to S. 2093, while the legislation appears to do good by countering racial discrimination, it ultimately pushes forward left-wing candidates for office.

While this bill did not become law, Harn noted that Ossoff’s support for the bill makes “it harder for states to secure their own elections.”

Further Evidence …

Ossoff’s voting record is not limited to supporting these measures. Wyatt noted that Ossoff also rejected legislation such as the SAVE America Act.

Given the pattern of Ossoff’s voting record, it seems as if “Jon Ossoff is voting for national extremist groups that call voter ID and proof of citizenship ‘suppression’,” Harn said.

Wyatt added that, “Senator Ossoff believes when election integrity comes into conflict with the Democratic Party line, the party line wins.”

Ultimately, Wyatt said, “Senator Ossoff has repeatedly shown that election-integrity priorities are not his priorities. Georgians are entitled to someone who believes they are.”

“The American people overwhelmingly support voter ID laws, yet Democrats continue to claim that such requirements are a form of voter suppression akin to Jim Crow.”

If nothing else, “He [Ossoff] should explain to his constituents why he believes Washington should have more power over how Georgia runs its elections,” Bragg said.

The Ossoff campaign did not respond to the Daily Signal’s request for comment.
