“October Surprise” – Julian Assange Announces Heartwarming Family Update

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange made a rare post on social media by revealing he and his wife Stella are expecting their third child.

“October Surprise,” Assange wrote.

“This new life is thanks to everyone who fought for my freedom,” he added.

news.com.au has more:

A picture showed the Australian man staring off into the distance standing next to his wife, who cradled her stomach.

In a separate post, Ms Assange said they had “happy news”.

“This new life would not have been possible without all those who fought to bring Julian Assange home,” she wrote on social media.

This is Assange’s third child.

He and his wife secretly conceived two children, Gabriel and Max, while the WikiLeaks founder was living inside the Ecuadorean Embassy in London.

Assange returned to Australian soil in June 2024 from a UK jail after signing a plea deal with the US, ending a years-long battle over his extradition to the country.

Assange was quiet following his release but returned to social media in September after eight years.

“I’m back,” Assange wrote earlier this month.

In another post, the WikiLeaks founder corrected Polymarket that his X hiatus was eight years instead of two years.

“8 years, polymarket. last tweet 2018. account then run by my defense campaign as @DefendAssange,” he wrote.

7NEWS shared further:

The news comes just over two years since he was freed following a 14-year-long legal battle against espionage charges.

Following his publication of classified US documents in 2010 and 2011, Assange spent seven years at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he was granted asylum on the grounds of political persecution as he avoided extradition to Sweden amid a rape investigation that was later dropped by Swedish authorities.

He spent the next five years in a high-security UK prison fighting extradition to the US.

He pleaded guilty to the Espionage Act in a US court in the Northern Mariana Islands as part of a plea deal for his freedom in 2024.

While admitting guilt, Assange did note he believed it contradicted the US constitution’s First Amendment protecting free speech.

Stella told Sunrise at the time that reuniting with Assange was the “happiest day of my life”, after being questioned about the couple’s long kiss after her husband landed in Canberra.

“I was so happy to see him, and we were able to spend our first few moments together in freedom. The reception has been so extraordinary,” Stella said.
