A pro football team has been excoriated for promoting “indigenous peoples” day while advertising a people known for “r*pe, murder, pillaging and slavery.”

It is the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, named for a people known for their marauding campaigns along the seacoasts for at least three or four centuries, who have been targeted by public criticism for the team’s decision to go politically correct and refuse to honor Columbus Day on Monday, instead opting for “Indigenous Peoples’ Day.”

The team said it was honoring “the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indeigenous peoples.”

“We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from and engage with Indigenous leaders, organizations, and community members…”

Today we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day and honor the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from and engage with Indigenous leaders, organizations, and community members who help strengthen Minnesota every day

A comment at the Gateway Pundit explained, “Beyond getting hammered for pc pandering, the Vikings were not prepared for the flood of comments from X users who had some choice words about the people the team was named after. The Vikings were notoriously infamous for horrific acts of human brutality from the late 8th century to the late 11th century, including r*pe, murder, pillaging, and slavery. Yet they virtue-signal for people who demonize Columbus.:”

One comment called for the team to have a new name: “Vikings were known for pillaging, raping, slaughtering, burning, and enslaving their victims. They terrorized innocent people in coastal communities including monasteries for centuries, even killed and enslaved women and children on a large scale. Better change your name too.”

Another added, “Says the organization honoring the Vikings! Raided monasteries and settlements. Enslaved captaives and participated in human trafficking. Killed civilians during raids and warfare…”

Another said, “Before you virtues signal too much, you might want to look up the history of the vikings.”

@Vikings Says the organization honoring the Vikings! Raided monasteries and settlements. Enslaved captives and participated in human trafficking. Killed civilians during raids and warfare. Also traded, farmed, explored, and established settlements.

Another said, “When are you changing the team name from the Vikings?”

And, “You misspelled Columbus Day.”

Today we give our heartfelt gratitude to the great Christopher Columbus, who brought Western Civilization to this desolate land that would go on to become the most powerful and prosperous country in the world. We should bring back all his statues, add him to Rushmore, and put him on the dime.

It’s Columbus Day, not Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
