A Justice Department filing tied to the search warrant for Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington home identifies the Minnesota Democrat by another name, drawing fresh scrutiny as federal investigators examine her immigration history.

The motion names her as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar” while describing the warrant at the center of a battle over access to sealed records.

Prosecutors used the identification in an Oct. 21 request for additional time to respond to applications seeking those documents. The filing does not explain the choice of name.

Will Chamberlain highlighted the language on X, arguing that it signals investigators are questioning whether Omar entered or remained in the country under a false identity.

“BREAKING: the federal search warrant against Ilhan Omar names her as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,” indicating that DOJ believes she is present in the United States under a false identity!” Chamberlain wrote.

The accompanying document is a government motion tied to the warrant. Its opening paragraph identifies Omar using both names, though the excerpt does not expressly allege that she is living under a fraudulent identity.

POLL: Should Ilhan Omar Be Deported If Found Guilty Of Immigration Fraud?

The disclosure comes as news outlets and Judicial Watch push to bring records from the search into public view.

Three separate applications seek access to the sealed materials: one from a coalition of 14 news organizations, another from The New York Times Co. and a third from Judicial Watch.

Prosecutors asked to hold off on responding until the warrant is fully executed. Alternatively, they sought a single Nov. 9 deadline to answer all three applications. The applicants opposed the requested extension, according to the motion.

Homeland Security Investigations agents searched Omar’s Washington residence Oct. 12 as part of an ongoing federal investigation, the Justice Department said.

Reuters reported that the inquiry focuses on whether Omar or her relatives provided false information during the refugee admissions or citizenship process. A person familiar with the investigation told the outlet that the sealed warrant listed conspiracy, false statements on immigration paperwork, and immigration fraud as potential offenses under investigation.

Omar has denied wrongdoing and accused the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement to intimidate her.
