A model scout with ties to Jeffrey Epstein died in his house outside of Paris this week, according to authorities.
Daniel Siad, a former model recruiter who was tied to Epstein, was reportedly being investigated by French authorities for allegations of abuse, rape, and human trafficking for the convicted sex offender, all of which he denied. French law enforcement officials said his body was found in his home Monday evening and that an autopsy will be conducted as part of the investigation to determine his cause of death.
“An investigation to determine the cause of death was opened on Monday evening following the discovery,” the Nanterre prosecutor’s office said in a statement to multiple media outlets.
French authorities had not yet questioned him as part of the investigations before his death, according to the Guardian. Siad’s lawyer said in a statement to Reuters that he was never formally the subject of any judicial proceedings.
Siad’s name appeared more than 1,800 times in the Justice Department’s public Epstein files library. The files include messages that appear to be between Siad and Epstein, including emails in which Siad references women in New York.
“Hello Jeffrey my friend the Thai actrice is new York if you have time to invite her,” a message from Daniel Siad reads in the files.
CNN had recently interviewed Siad about his relationship with Epstein. Siad told the outlet that he had “trusted” the disgraced financier.
“I trusted him and believed this guy was a professional person,” Siad told CNN. “I never heard anything from anyone I introduced to him who came back to me that they had a bad situation. I believed this guy is a professional person.”
